Saint-Gobain Product Engineer, Adhesives & Sealants in WORCESTER, Massachusetts

The Product Engineer’s primary responsibility is to help commercialize new products and modify existing products to meet customers’ needs of the adhesives and sealants products sold in the US and Canada. The Product Engineer will analyze requirements and competitive situations, initiate the development, testing, and introduction of new products, and support key initiatives for the Adhesives & Sealants BU.-

Product Engineering : New Product Launch and Development

  • Works closely with A&S Product Manager and global product development teams in developing the product portfolio, including differentiated and innovative products to meet business strategic and financial goals.

  • Identify new product technical requirements by visiting customers and mapping critical to quality attributes for key applications.

  • Work with regional R&D, manufacturing and technical business teams and provide primary technical guidance with internal groups to ensure new products meet performance and quality expectations.

  • Identify and develop and execute as needed new internal application testing methods to support the development and screening of new products.

  • Lead testing efforts with R&D, external labs, and commercial teams during new product validation and field testing.

  • Work with marketing and manufacturing teams on product artwork and packaging and support critical commercialization efforts for new and modified products.

Product Technical Training and Support

  • Create an awareness of A&S products and their application advantages by acquiring, evaluating, and maintaining technical product information.

  • Provide technical direction through training and direct technical assistance to the sales team, customers, and distributors, through training seminars and presentations.

  • Work with marketing and sales teams to develop selling tools to reduce sales cycle time including application SOPs, technical guides, and testing toolkits, and internal / external informational videos.

  • Provide troubleshooting for customers and sales team on products.

  • Support Quality activities including COA review, incoming inspections and complaint resolution.

Product Portfolio Maintenance

  • Develop an understanding and continual analysis of the competitive situation, including new product trends, packaging concepts, and substitute technologies to maintain competitive advantage and identify potential portfolio gaps

  • Maintain and update product information and specification databases

  • Work with R&D, suppliers and marketing teams to create and update TDS sheets

Education:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related technical field (Required)

  • MS in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Business, or a related technical field (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 5+ years in Product and/or Application Engineering within adhesives, sealants, and coatings.

  • Industrial experience in product applications, particularly in the construction industry and/or elastomeric adhesives/sealants.

  • Ability to travel 30%-50% domestically and internationally.

Skills and Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Adhesives & Sealants market.

  • Technical expertise in product and application engineering, market trends, product governance, regulations, and customer needs.

  • Proficiency in teaching, troubleshooting, and providing training on product applications, technology, market dynamics, competitive situations, and product value propositions.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote setting.

  • Customer support experience, particularly in product application training.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a preference for cross-cultural experience.

  • Confidence and passion in professional interactions.

  • Proficiency in digital tools, statistical analysis, Microsoft Office, MicroStrategy, and SAP.
