Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Inc. Maintenance Worker in Worcester, Massachusetts


Under general supervision, performs a variety of work in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment. Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Carpentry: Performs basic rough and finished carpentry and repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences, window frames, office furniture, roofs, and shelves

  • Electrical: Performs basic electrical installation and repair work in wiring for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, power circuits and appliances; repairs lighting systems; inspects electrical systems for unsafe conditions

  • Plumbing/Painting: Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; opens clogged lines and drains; replaces washers and other minor parts; applies and prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain; repairs wall coverings

  • Grounds Maintenance: Maintains grounds in clean and orderly manner including maintains grounds maintenance equipment; trims tree branches that create hazardous situations; maintains sidewalks and parking lots including snow and ice removal

  • Provide general maintenance and courier services to designated Health Center locations utilizing reliable personal and/or business motor vehicle transportation.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Lock and secure all properties using electronic security system and mechanical keyed locks as required by the Centers guidelines

  • Report mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action; Exercises discretion in identifying projects requiring the services of a higher skilled crafts person; assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as needed

  • Activates and deactivates building alarms and responds to alarm calls during and after regular work hours; maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites. On Call evenings and weekends as needed

  • Complete various inspections as scheduled on a monthly and quarterly and document required inspection information within the designated log book

  • Complete the following general housekeeping duties when necessary and as assigned by the supervisor: Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip and wax floors; Clean: walls, windows, wastebaskets, sinks, toilets, and furniture; Gather and dispose of trash from inside the buildings as well as on the grounds; Clean lighting fixtures, windows, window treatments, door frames etc; Move furniture for relocation of personnel; Clear exterior walkways, ramps and stairs of snow and debris; Perform other housekeeping tasks as requested by supervisor

  • Remove bio-hazardous materials as required adhering to the Health Center?s guidelines

  • Perform other duties and work assignments as assigned by the supervisor including attendance of requested department, center, and outside meetings and/or trainings

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2-4 years of facilities maintenance experience that demonstrates general knowledge/skills of building operations including basic plumbing, basis electrical, basic carpentry, and basic landscaping

  • Basic computer skills including email, typing, spreadsheets, word processing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years technical school training in related general maintenance field.
