Global HSE & Risk Manager

Global HSE & Risk Manager

SCOPE:

The Global Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Risk Manager will provide global oversight and leadership for the HSE and Risk Management functions across Sirtex.

The role will be responsible for the improvement and management of policies, procedures and programs to understand, manage and improve all aspects of health, safety and environment, and risk management, to minimise operational risk across the organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Provide expertise and knowledge to oversee the development, implementation and continual improvement of Sirtex HSE strategies, standards and programs

  • Develop, implement and manage global HSE systems and procedures as the designated Management Representative and ensure the necessary programs are in place to reduce employee risk and minimise environmental impacts

  • Monitor, evaluate and recommend improvements to the HSE systems

  • Provide support and information to the Global Head of Operations, Senior Leadership Team and Board on all HSE related matters, including the continual improvement of the HSE Management System

  • Support the development of both Senior Leadership and line management in safety

  • Ensure global HSE training is in accordance with business needs

  • Identify and recommend resources, equipment, processes and procedural changes to control or eliminate workplace hazards and minimise environmental impacts

  • Provide leadership and guidance for the establishment of efficient methods to manage workplace risks, and oversee the development and implementation of safer alternatives

  • Provide leadership for the management and development of risk assessment and monitoring

  • Provide clear communications regarding health, safety and environment requirements and expectations to drive consistency across Sirtex sites globally

  • Develop, oversee and implement HSE audit programmes and tools to ensure consistent compliance with applicable HSE Standards across the organisation

  • Conduct assessments and audits of site compliance to determine gaps with global standards

  • Develop and maintain strategies and programs to ensure compliance with all applicable HSE legislation and regulations

  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of evolving and existing regulations and directives regarding Health, Safety & Environment, and provide direction on anticipated, future requirements

  • Develop and report to Senior Leadership and the Board on a suite of leading and lagging metrics to facilitate continuous improvement in HSE performance

  • Build strong internal relationships to actively reinforce and promote HSE

  • Work in partnership with management and the site HSE Co-ordinators

  • Provide coaching to the HSE Co-ordinators and other parties involved in HSE implementation

  • Collaborate with HR to improve employee inductions, education and HSE training and awareness

Risk Management

  • Establish, maintain and improve the company’s Corporate risk management policies and documentation

  • Monitor and report to the Senior Leadership Team and Board on compliance with Corporate risk management policies and procedures

  • Co-ordinate and ensure the development of global processes, policies and procedures for identification and control of risks across the business

  • Design and implement policies and procedures, in conjunction with other functions as required (e.g. IT) to ensure the security of the company’s physical and intellectual property, including corporate and operational facilities

  • Provide input where required to assist and support cross-functional risk management activities concerning Product and Process risk.

  • Undergo all formal Training Events as may be Directed from time-to-time

  • Observe and Comply with all Sirtex Corporate Policies

  • Work within, and ensure adherence to Quality System procedures, work instructions and other Quality System requirements

  • Work within, and ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environment Management System procedures, instructions and other requirements

EDUCATIONAL PREREQUISITES AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formal tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, and Environment and/or Risk Management, or equivalent

  • Certified Safety professional (CSP) or equivalent certification highly preferred

  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ work experience relevant to the role, including experience in HSE management system development and implementation to OHSAS18001/ISO45001 and ISO14001

  • Previous experience working in an advisory capacity in Health, Safety and Environment, Risk Management, or similar

  • In-depth knowledge of HSE and Risk Management best practice

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently

  • Experience in conducting HSE inspections and audits

  • Ability to develop and deliver HSE training

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality customer service

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improvements and influence change

  • Highly developed communication (oral and written), negotiation and interpersonal skills

  • Sound conflict resolution and negotiation skills

  • Time management skills, project management, planning administrative and computer skills

  • Familiarity with global environmental, health and safety management, legislation and standards

  • Ability to travel regularly to overseas locations to conduct audits, inspections and training

  • Experience with radiation safety, or willingness to complete, a Radiation Safety Officer qualification

  • Ability to see the big picture and understand what is best for Sirtex in the long term

  • Established safety mindset, being approachable and able to work well with all levels of the organisation from factory floor through to the Boardroom

    TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Training in relevant procedures, work instructions and records.

  • Radiation Safety Training (if not already completed)

  • Lead Auditor Certification

  • Ability/willingness to complete other specialised training as required by business needs and to ensure continuous personal development.
