We are looking for a candidate excited about space and technology applications to join the L3Harris Imaging Division in Wilmington. You will design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for the build and test of precision assemblies. These assemblies include optical, mechanical, and electrical components. You will collaborate with design engineering to ensure the designs are producible and testable (DFMAT). You will work with technicians in a hands on environment to build the next generation of optical/mechanical/electrical assemblies and payloads for use in space applications. This business has built telescopes that took the first close up pictures of Pluto in support of NASA’s New Horizons program. (

Essential Functions:

  • Write detailed manufacturing instructions, processes, procedures

  • Interface with and direct technicians and other operations personnel

  • Collaborate with hardware designers to ensure functional requirements are met

  • Provide manufacturing support for the assembly and integration of optical, mechanical, and electrical assemblies

  • Design assembly fixtures and tooling

  • Work with and assemble precision optics

  • Work with epoxies and other bonding agents to secure assemblies

  • Ensure proper wiring of electrical harnesses and PCBs within assemblies

  • Lead continuous improvement projects

  • Support design engineering, analysis, and other program management activities

  • Implement lessons learned, best practices, and standard work

  • Perform RCCA investigations to ensure product quality

  • Proven problem solver

  • Create and deliver presentations for a wide range of audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills


  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM/engineering (ex. optical, electrical, mechanical)

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with optical-mechanical alignment

  • Experience with electro-mechanical assemblies or gimbals

  • Lean (Green Belt, Black Belt) certification

  • CAD experience or training (Inventor/AutoCAD)

  • Knowledge of Gage, Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Knowledge of program and project management techniques and tools

  • Familiarity with AS9100/ISO9001 industry standards

  • Familiarity with New Product Implementation and Development

  • Fabrication and metrology of reflectors, lenses, composite and specialty metal structures (invar/titanium)

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office suite and experience with Microsoft Visio and Project

  • Security clearance desired, but not required
