POSITION SUMMARY:

The Engineering Manager is a key role focused on planning leading and executing Engineering projects. This position leads and partners with local and worldwide cross-functional teams to develop and meet project schedules. This role manages and monitors projects from inception to completion, assuring satisfactory completion and coordinates with all functional departments and with upper-level management. The Engineering Manager also focuses on hiring, engaging, and developing a high performing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews go-to-market strategies. Leads customer calls and manages daily activities related to engagements. Aligns team needs with customer needs

  • Manages highly complex, large projects. Influences and recommends changes to the strategy, processes, and operations for a product or multiple products/teams

  • Drives portfolio of product offerings and technology solutions to ensure material margins for business meet/exceed objectives. These include technology building blocks, product platforms, derivative products and sustaining activities

  • Updates key stakeholders on project status; drives metrics and goals to monitor performance and effectiveness

  • Works with marketing and customers to develop product proposals that meet these needs

  • Uncover and assess projects risks and develop effective mitigation plans and escalation paths

  • Manages and provides work direction and priorities to project teams

  • Works with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products

  • Interact with other departments and teams to achieve objectives and improve processes

  • Develops goals, manages performance, and coaches/mentors’ technical resources

  • Works with direct reports to set and monitor fair but challenging objectives

  • Completes meaningful employee reviews through continuous feedback and regular formal reviews; mentors and develops the skills of project teams and direct reports

  • Ensures smooth and effective cross-functional and cross-site working relationships

  • Communicates clearly and listens to ensure better decision making and changes in strategy/direction, if required

  • Ensures clear escalation paths are defined and executed, if program KPI is at risk, drives early assessment/resolution to prevent impact to project schedule or performance

  • Sets up regular phase exit reviews with all stakeholders as part of PDP process

  • Ensures proper meeting and project governance - relevant agendas, attendees, regularity, clear outcomes with trackable, time and resource identified actions clearly recorded and distributed

  • Contributes to the annual operating plan cost center budget

  • Monitors project costs and CAPEX spend budget monthly to ensure limited overspend/underspend

  • Ensure authorization for spend required is in place to meet objectives

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Wilmington, MA; Must be able to travel occasionally (10-25%) domestically and internationally as required.

  • Environment: Works in a noisy, fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment

  • Flexibility working across time zones as part of a global team, as required.

  • Interfaces with internal and external customers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Proven experience in developing and executing project budgets

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • High level of consultative, interpersonal, communication, and presentations skills.

  • Strong global awareness and diversity of thought and experiences

  • High proficiency with Microsoft office applications including PowerPoint and SharePoint.

  • Highly customer-focused, collaborative and able to develop strong relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years minimum experience in an electronics development environment

  • Previous experience in leading/managing engineering projects or engineering teams

  • Strong background in establishing and managing meaningful relationships

EDUCATION:

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent

  • Advanced Degree, such as master’s in engineering or MBA preferred

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $160,000 to $180,000 per year.
