Environmental Health & Safety Specialist


About This Role

We believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for

  • Work closely with the EHS Manager and team to promptly address new EHS and value stream requirements.

  • Examining work environments for various physical, chemical, biological, and environmental hazards and stresses (i.e. comprehensive risk assessments, exposure assessment, process hazard assessments, and ergonomic assessments) and make recommendations for improvements to process and equipment.

  • Assist with incident investigations on injuries or illnesses and provide recommendations to prevent recurrences, using the root cause analysis method.

  • Interpreting OSHA and Environmental Standards and regulations and maintain cooperative relationships with OSHA, OSHA-approved State Plans, EPA, and State Environmental Agencies.

  • Submit monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual reports to federal, state, local and corporate offices as required.

  • Collect, analyze, and report EHS data internally and provide inputs to correct gaps and address change.

  • Provide technical support in the transport of hazardous/regulated materials and wastes

  • Support environmental compliance initiatives to include waste management, air monitoring, stormwater monitoring, wastewater treatment, etc.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health and safety training courses and drills for supervisors and employees as needed.

  • Drive risk reduction and compliance efforts using scientific and engineering principles, providing technical expertise and assistance in the design of process/machinery controls.

  • Coach, influence, and guide EHS integration efforts to ensure understanding, efficiency, and collaboration between all disciplines. Present ideas well one-on-one, in small groups, and to larger audiences. Have the ability to convey meaning and importance of EHS topics to non-EHS personnel, and to influence others to take appropriate action based on such information.



  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of combined experience in EHS and regulatory, manufacturing, laboratory, and/or research and development

  • Software Knowledge: Microsoft Office Applications

  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and Federal/State EHS regulations

  • Previous experience interfacing with Regulatory Agencies, such as US EPA, MassDEP, MWRA, and OSHA is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in EHS or related field

  • EHS Professional Certification

  • Experience in a manufacturing or comparable-risk environment and familiarity with World-Class Safety Culture

  • Experience with ATF, ATF inspections, weapon manufacturing, and/or explosives

  • Experience with OSHA 3912-03, Process Safety Management and Pyrotechnics Manufacturing
