Summary

The Director of Engineering, Shared Services will be responsible for developing the plan, direction, and coordination for shared engineering services activities cross-functionally, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective solutions to meet current and future customer and company needs.

Duties

  • As a solution provider, works across business segments to generate new business into the company. This will require the ability to generate statement of works, proposals, review contracts, track business-related invoices, etc.

  • Conducts high-level industry research to develop effective sales solutions.

  • Interacts with and promotes the site’s capabilities and solutions to prospective customers and responds to customer inquiries.

  • Participates in collaborative engagement across business segments to update key stakeholders and executives.

  • Frequent customer collaboration to develop relationship buy-in, execute site strategy and solution roadmap that effectively meet customer needs, grow business, and yield a positive return on investment and customer ratings.

  • Attracts, hires, develops, supports, motivates, and retains, world class employees across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Leads a highly innovative, enterprise wide, multi-discipline organization, which develops world class solutions, within a defined fast paced R&D development process, with highest levels of safety, reliability, innovation, and lowest cost for multiple applications and across multiple business areas that, in addition to other capabilities, the organization is capable of:

  • Fast & effective design and prototyping to production of projects/programs to effectively meet customer needs.

  • Provide world-class engineering services.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering tools, best practices and processes, capabilities, and capacity to effectively support Commercial & Defense businesses within AV in global and emerging markets.

  • Effectively plans, develops, and manages engineering budgets and financial objectives consistent with the site’s strategic plan & Annual Operating Plan (AOP), and manages the resources and staffing level consistent with the plans. Uses financial techniques to improve sales revenue.

  • Manages prioritization and trade-offs among projects to effectively lead the site’s customer solution portfolio, achieve a balance of solutions, and address resource needs.

  • Evaluates addressable markets, risks, opportunities, and competitors to support current and future business pursuits. Anticipates world events and develops solutions, or mitigations, to address possible scenarios.

  • Establishes, tracks, and analyzes site performance and sales metrics to ensure site targets are being met and takes action to address issues and/or opportunities.

  • Develops and maintain unified site culture of delivering world-class excellence in customer service and create/promote an environment where our employees can grow professionally to become the BEST at what they do.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • 12+ years of successful engineering experience including 8+ years in leading matrix Engineering organizations, managing an engineering team across multiple "Business Area" construct.

  • Proven & successful experience managing & leading a multi-disciplined organization.

  • Experience in customer service, marketing, or a sales-related field, and managing profit and loss in a company.

  • Strong knowledge of business and sales growth techniques in the field of engineering design services

  • Exceptional project management skills

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing engineering processes, tools, and best practices

  • Experience running a line of business as engineering leader, including but not limited to, executing to roadmap within budget, and on time, creating budget projections, run rates, headcount, and infrastructure resource requests, driving hiring strategy, utilizing onshore and offshore resources etc.

  • Experience partnering with Product organization and other cross-functional partners in co-creating executable product vision and roadmaps.

  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical/scientific discipline required.

  • Graduate and post-graduate degrees in related discipline is highly preferred.

The salary range for this role is:

$160,000 - $272,000

AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.

ITAR Requirement:

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”).
