Abbott Senior Product Support Systems Engineer - R&D in Westford, Massachusetts

Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease. Our extensive portfolio includes drug-eluting stents, bare metal stents, guide wires, balloon dilatation catheters, imaging catheters and software, vessel closure devices and peripheral stents.

Our location in Westford, MA, currently has an opportunity for an intermediate level Product Support Systems Engineer with excellent troubleshooting skills and hardware systems knowledge. You can be part of an engineering team that supports a novel, high resolution imaging technology (OCT) which is cutting edge and a game changer for intracoronary. This unique opportunity will give you a broad view of everything that goes into the OCT product. And, you’ll have exposure to all engineering disciplines.


Hands on troubleshooting, verification and validation testing for imaging and physiology medical device systems.

Create and process documentation of change orders, protocols, reports and procedures.

Conduct investigation activities to resolve problems.

Drive and execute verification and validation plans and testing of the system integration (SW, HW and Disposable) to meet performance requirements.

Work in close collaboration with development engineers to ensure requirements are fully understood and correctly implemented.

Gain deep technical understanding of various components within a complex medical device system in order to define system interface requirements (i.e. HW, SW, disposable).

Lead the resolution of complex problems related to system use, installation and testing.

Create and process documentation of change orders, protocols, reports and procedures.

Interact with internal and external team members and vendors.

Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

May travel domestically and internationally 10%



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electro-mechanical, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline. ​

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience on complex electro-mechanical systems with a graphical user interface.

  • Software coding experience in software development (e.g. programming-heavy coursework, school projects, freelance work and professional experience).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a geographically diverse, matrixed organization.

  • Ability to travel globally.


  • Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electro-mechanical, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline.

  • Basic understanding of C++ coding practices.

  • Medical device experience.
