RedHat Associate Software Engineer in Westford, Massachusetts

Job summary

The Red Hat Enterprise Experience and Delivery (EXD) Software Production Cloud team is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join us in Westford MA; Boston MA, or Raleigh NC. In this role, you will aid in enabling the smooth production and rapid release of Red Hat Software and significantly contribute to the business strategy of market leadership in hybrid cloud technologies. You will be joining a cross-functional team in the midst of exciting project development. Your team will be creating and maintaining services for Red Hat's container rebuilds, container grading, and Product Release Pipeline CI domains.

Red Hat EXD Software Production is responsible for building and shipping Red Hat software to customers. The team consists of Engineers, Product Owners, Project Managers, Release Engineers, Scrum Masters, Reliability Engineers, and Managers. Together they build and operate the machinery that manufactures Red Hat products. As an engineer on this effort you will be expected to work in an agile environment to help keep our products and services modern and up to the task of building and shipping the latest Red Hat technologies. We’re looking for engineers who are interested in working with OpenShift, operating systems, continuous integration (CI), and more.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Design technical solutions to abstract problems

  • Help your team understand and prioritize requirements

  • Learn and understand the technologies involved

  • Serve as a technical lead for small projects

  • Mentor and guide junior team members

  • Coordinate with team leads, architects, and other engineers to design solutions

  • Participate on a scrum team

  • Guide new processes and procedures in the solutions space to improve the quality, consistency, and automation of releases

  • Give notice of project schedule changes

  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

  • Communicate with engineering and management teams across the globe

  • Work in a fast-paced environment where timely deliverables are as important as the big ideas for potential growth

  • Write crucial parts of the system

  • Perform root cause analysis

  • Provide code and peer reviews

  • Document and maintain software functionality

Required skills

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of Python 3

  • Knowledge of Git

  • Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift

  • Some knowledge of CI and continuous delivery (CD)

  • Some knowledge of Linux, especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora

  • Ability to code and learn new programming languages

  • Solid written and verbal English communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with other teams

  • Ability to provide and accept constructive feedback that directly impacts our business goals

  • Ability to help define, follow, and enforce processes

  • Knowledge of tools like GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible, Ansible Tower, Jira, Confluence is a big plus

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Previous experience releasing multiple offerings in a production environment

  • Experience with development for public cloud services (AWS, GCE, Azure)

  • Knowledge of message bus, and database (Postgres, Mongo) technologies

  • Ability to present to customers and stakeholders

  • Understanding of how open source and free software communities work

  • Ability to debug issues across multiple software layers
