Amazon Sr. Technical Program Manager, RMTO in Westborough, Massachusetts

Amazon Robotics is actively seeking an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join our Robotics Manufacturing & Technical Operations (RMTO) team focused on Robotic Manipulation systems. This individual will be responsible for coordinating the integration of hardware and software components, as well as creating an initial process, then defining and managing the overall build playbook to ensure the successful delivery of our robotic manipulation products to internal customers. The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, supply chain and manufacturing to ensure the seamless integration of all product components, both on-time and on-budget. Multiple projects will be managed at the same time.

This individual will build management and executive-level reporting, coordinating the of hardware and software components, and hold cross-functional teams accountable to scope and timelines for our robotic manipulation systems. You will work closely with internal RMTO teams providing technical leadership based on what is best for both the product and the customer. You will partner with external cross-functional teams both upstream and downstream to ensure alignment to the build schedule and deliverables. You will own creation, adoption, and continuous improvement of the build playbook which works backwards from a clear-to-build milestone.

Key job responsibilities

• Manage both readiness and execution build activities for New Product Introduction (NPI) builds – as needed.

• Create and manage a build playbook that is specific to your respective value stream or program and inclusive of all tasks and timelines defined by each cross-functional team.

• Create a work backwards schedule from a CTB point in time, track and report critical path, status, dependencies and owners in a project management software.

• Ensure cross-functional teams are executing to plan to meet CTB by diving deep into the details.

• Host “Clear-to-Build” reviews prior to build start to ensure all build readiness tasks are completed.

• Be on-site for all build activities and send daily or weekly build reports capturing yield, help needed and other build activities.

• Manage and submit a unified fixture & tooling budget through a capital appropriation request (CAR) in partnership with Process Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing and Manufacturing Test teams.

• Manage and track build exception lists to funnel deviations and/or changes to help RMTO fill the gap for Hardware Engineering.

• Partner with Robotics Supply Chain (RSC) to ensure on-time delivery of parts with proper tracking and traceability mechanisms.

• Drive cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of all functions.

• Host “Clear-to-Ship” reviews after build execution to ensure all build criteria have been met for our customers prior to shipment of products.

• Host daily, weekly and/or monthly build calls to ensure performance to plan and unblock any issues.

• Host lessons learned/post mortem reviews to capture build improvements, then ensure improvements are bridged before next build.

• Manage and track yield, defects, and yield bridging from build to build for individual programs. Implement standardized tracking mechanism in partnership with Quality and PE.

• Track and continuously improve on build timelines from program to program – we should get faster the more we mature.

• Create & manage communication channels between cross-functional teams.

• Create & manage document repositories for all RMTO teams and programs.

• Develop metrics to measure program health and readiness.

About the team

The RMTO TPM team's objective is to manage the end-to-end process of integrating complex systems and components across functions for Amazon Robotics’ Manufacturing & Technical Operations (RMTO), part of Global Robotics Delivery (GRD). This includes effective cross-functional team management, coordinating with stakeholders, optimizing resources, mitigating risks, ensuring compliance with standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • Experience developing and executing/delivering product and technical roadmaps

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MS Project, MS Office, and MS Sharepoint

  • Experience with Hardware New Product Introduction phase gates and milestones, Oracle Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software, or equivalent, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), preferably Proplanner.
