Position Overview

The Amazon Robotics (AR) Simulation organization builds simulation models and conduct simulation experiments to support a broad range of robotic solutions. We use the simulation-first approach to inform critical engineering and business decisions for the AR systems.

We're looking for an experienced, self-directed, senior Data Scientist with a strong background in coding, statistical, and data mining techniques. You should have excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, the ability to work autonomously, and an enthusiasm for leveraging data to drive meaningful business outcomes.

Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Data Scientist on the team, you will play a crucial role in driving data-powered decision making. Your main focus will be

  • Collecting, creating and manipulating large, complex datasets to produce validated simulation inputs

  • Designing simulation experiments by considering the optimization targets, variable spaces and computational cost

  • Querying simulation outputs, generating metrics, and establishing robust data analysis frameworks to quantify the impact of the solutions

  • Creating compelling data visualizations to communicate system performance and identify improvement areas

  • Producing reports that suggests tradeoffs and informs decisions

  • Staying up to date with the best data tools to automate data workflows

  • Collaborating cross-functionally with software developers, domain experts, scientists and business stakeholders to understand the business goals, translate them into data-drive projects and deliver impactful results.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science, or Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of professional or military experience

  • 5+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience

  • 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in quantitative field such as statistics, data science, computer science

  • 2+ years experience with AWS services, such as athena, redshift, glue, lambda, sagemaker, etc

  • Experience with Deep Learning
