Astellas is announcing a Senior Research Associate, Neuroscience opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.
The Senior Research Associate, Neuroscience performs research and/or development of neuroscience-focused pluripotent stem cell-derived products via in vitro assay development and product characterization, as well as in vivo study support. The incumbent will play an important role in advancing pipeline products through meticulous individual contributions and collegial interactions/collaborations with other team members.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Utilization of primary neuronal culture/neuronal cell lines in neuroinflammatory and other assays by careful execution of established protocols.
In vitro characterization of cell products (potency and/or other properties) through established molecular and cell biology techniques and functional assays.
Participation in preparation of materials for in vivo studies.
Execution of in vivo study support activities, including performing immunohistochemical analysis of study tissues.
Makes recommendations for changes to experimental procedures to improve quality or productivity.
Ensures availability of all experimental materials.
Understands and carries out the proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Maintenance of laboratory notebook and communication/presentation of results.
Keeps current on relevant published literature and developments in the field.
Ability to effectively work in a matrix environment to support multiple projects.
BS./M.S. in neuroscience, molecular and cell biology, or related field, plus 5+ (for B.S.) or 2+ (for M.S.) years of relevant experience.
Must possess solid working knowledge of aseptic cell culture technique: growing, passaging, maintaining cells in culture.
The ability to perform laboratory assays in an accurate and reproducible manner by following established protocols.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
The ability to work well as a collaborative and collegial team member.
Experience with primary neuronal cell culture, stem cell differentiation, and/or neuronal cell line culture.
Experience with immunohistochemical analysis of brain and/or eye tissue (e.g. tissue processing, immunofluorescence staining, and/or fluorescence microscopy)
Experience with in vivo studies in rodent models of neurological and/or ophthalmic disease (coordinating with collaborators/CROs, or direct experience).
