We are currently looking for a co-op to join our R&D Engineering team in our Westborough, MA office. This 6-month program will run from January 2024 - June 2024. This is a full-time opportunity involving 35-40 hours per week.
Olympus Surgical Technologies America is a business casual, team-oriented atmosphere. Products are developed and managed from Westborough, but manufacturing is performed at other locations. Therefore multi-site discussions via conference calls are required for communication and product development. The co-op’s project work will be directed by the Project Engineer and will contribute to the efforts of the cross-functional team. He/she should be expected to also work independently with minimal supervision in the lab, summarizing data, and writing technical reports. He/she will also be involved with the team meeting where input is encouraged
The co-op will work in the research and development department primarily focused on urology surgical devices.
Here, he/she will assist with activities such as collecting R&D data, creating and modifying designs/drawings utilizing SolidWorks, testing prototype devices for functionality, writing technical reports, making presentations and giving weekly team updates.
The ideal candidate will have previous work experience in a research lab or the medical device industry. The ability to work as a team and hit the ground running is a major plus.
Must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited 4-year institution.
Must complete freshman year before the internship begins and graduate after the internship ends. Preferred fields of study include Engineering, Biology, Computer Science, or related discipline.

Has demonstrated the ability to balance academic and extracurricular commitments, for example, work experience, clubs, volunteer activities, teams, etc.
Good written and verbal communications skills
Ability to work in a team atmosphere
Mathematical skills in Statistics, Calculus and Physics
MATLAB, C, Python, Java / Coding experience is a plus
Experience with Arduino, Beagle Board, Raspberry PI is a plus
Previous work experience in the medical device industry is a plus
Experience with a CAD design package, preferably SolidWorks is a plus
Hands-On experience in a lab and shop environment is a plus.
