Job Description

We are currently looking for a co-op to join our R&D Engineering team in our Westborough, MA office. This 6-month program will run from January 2024 - June 2024. This is a full-time opportunity involving 35-40 hours per week.

Olympus Surgical Technologies America is a business casual, team-oriented atmosphere. Products are developed and managed from Westborough, but manufacturing is performed at other locations. Therefore multi-site discussions via conference calls are required for communication and product development. The co-op’s project work will be directed by the Project Engineer and will contribute to the efforts of the cross-functional team. He/she should be expected to also work independently with minimal supervision in the lab, summarizing data, and writing technical reports. He/she will also be involved with the team meeting where input is encouraged

Job Duties

• The co-op will work in the research and development department primarily focused on urology surgical devices.

• Here, he/she will assist with activities such as collecting R&D data, creating and modifying designs/drawings utilizing SolidWorks, testing prototype devices for functionality, writing technical reports, making presentations and giving weekly team updates.

• The ideal candidate will have previous work experience in a research lab or the medical device industry. The ability to work as a team and hit the ground running is a major plus.

Job Qualifications

Required

• Must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited 4-year institution.

• Must complete freshman year before the internship begins and graduate after the internship ends. Preferred fields of study include Engineering, Biology, Computer Science, or related discipline.

• ​​​​​​​Has demonstrated the ability to balance academic and extracurricular commitments, for example, work experience, clubs, volunteer activities, teams, etc.

Preferred:

• Good written and verbal communications skills

• Ability to work in a team atmosphere

• Mathematical skills in Statistics, Calculus and Physics

• MATLAB, C, Python, Java / Coding experience is a plus

• Experience with Arduino, Beagle Board, Raspberry PI is a plus

• Previous work experience in the medical device industry is a plus

• Experience with a CAD design package, preferably SolidWorks is a plus

• Hands-On experience in a lab and shop environment is a plus.
