Title: Scientist I/ II, Analytical Development

Location: Waltham, MA

Reports To: Sr. Scientist, Analytical Development

The Role

The successful candidate will support development, qualification, transfer, and troubleshooting of various biological assays for characterization of lentivirus and AAV gene therapy programs. Primary responsibilities include performing quantitative assays to measure virus titer, infectivity, and biophysical characterization of AAV. Experience with cell-based assays, immunoassays, and AAV is requested. Experience with HPLC, AUC, CE-SDS, cIEF is highly desirable.


  • Perform and develop qPCR/ ddPCR-based quantitative assays measuring viral titer, and other process-related impurities in LVV and AAV sample.

  • Hands-on AAV biophysical characterization methods such as BLI, HPLC, AUC, TEM, CE-SDS, cIEF.

  • Support development and execution of analytical assays on various analytical platforms.

  • Advanced mammalian cell culture skills.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis for biological assays.

  • Responsibilities include data analysis, accurate record keeping, data analysis, preparation and reviewing of technical reports and standard operation procedures, and internal technical presentations.

  • This position will be highly cross functional and assist in developing and defining a functional analytics core across QC, R&D, PD, QC and GMP manufacturing.


  • B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biochemistry, Biology, Virology, or related Biological Sciences with 5-10 years of relevant experience. Ph.D. with 2-5 years’ experience in industry.

  • Prior experience in industry, especially in Analytical Development required.

  • Extensive experience in cell biology, biophysical characterization and molecular cell biology techniques.

  • Previous experience with AAV is requested.

  • Previous experience with SEC-HPLC, IEX-HPLC, BLI, AUC, TEM, CE-SDS, CiEF is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with GLP requirements.

  • The ideal candidate is a fast learner with strong scientific curiosity, good interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills.
