National Grid Principal Process Manager, Process and Performance Improvement in Waltham, Massachusetts

National Grid is hiring a Principal Process Manager, Process Performance Improvement. This position could be based in Brooklyn, NY, Syracuse, NY, Waltham, MA or any of our locations.

Job Purpose

The Principal, Process and Performance Improvement is a team member of Gas Organization E2E Workstream: Extend and Replace with Paving and Complex Capital. This position will ensure that EnR and Paving interests are represented within the GBE Program, Enhancement, Backlog and Implementation. Additional focus on supporting the Gas Organization progressing FY23/24 Efficiency Initiatives through the Fives Gates of the Gas CapEx OpEx Efficiency Program Operating Model. The Five Gates: Ideation and Business Case Submittal; Business Case Approval; Implementation Build; Implementation Build Readiness Assessment and Transition to Gas Organization “Ways of Working” and lastly, Handoff to PMO. The successful candidate must have project management experience.

Candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, proven skills in lean and six sigma tools and experience maximizing automation opportunities to drive efficiencies. Must be system savvy; experience in design, develop, test and implementation of system enhancements and recognizes where to insert controls to minimize downstream errors. Understanding of Agile and Jira helpful. Additionally, can determine when to engage Advanced Analytic Team or Robotic Team based upon department value proposition. Must be able to build Power BI Dashboards and an expert using Blueworks and eHub.

Candidate can navigate through ambiguity, create opportunities and deliver efficiencies. Offers a track record of facilitating and coaching the application of Continuous Improvement Tools. Strong presentation skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensures that within GBE Program EnR and Paving requirements are delivered on time.

  • Supports the Business Leads during deployment of GBE to the field.

  • Establishes relationship with Business Leads to uncover pipeline of Efficiency Initiatives by applying required tools and providing data to inform decisions.

  • Ensures that 90% FY23 Gas CapEx and OpEx FY23 Efficiency Initiatives successfully pass Readiness Assessment; 95% FY24.

  • Introduces progressive SMEs to Business Leads and core team as a result of effective networking within NG and existing consulting relationships

  • Applies Standard CI Tools to unlock savings opportunities; engages Advanced Analytic Team and Robotic Team where appropriate.

  • Creates Savings Trackers and detailed process maps showcasing the systems generating the data for automation opportunities.

  • Uncover efficiency initiatives that may be under the radar of Efficiency Program.

  • Recognizes Opportunities to expand existing efficiency initiatives to other Opcos with understanding that some adjustments are required.

  • Drives implementation of self-service tools (i.e., Power BI), drive its usage and helping drive a data driven performance culture at National Grid.

  • Understands and manages system design, develop, test and implement stages with awareness of where controls are critical.

  • Guarantees that end users are engaged in design and test of system and process changes.

  • Demonstrates skills in change management.

  • Demonstrate supervisory skills; there is potential to supervise dotted line team member on specific projects.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred.

  • 7+ years of related experience in process improvement.

  • Demonstrates Advanced Lean and Six Sigma skills.

  • Strong Finance Acumen.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including presentation skills.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Visio, Agile, Blueworks, Power BI lean and project management tool e.g., Microsoft Project Management. Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, SQL helpful.

  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history
