Commonwealth Financial Network Manager, AML Compliance in Waltham, Massachusetts

The role of manager, AML compliance is a diverse and exciting opportunity for someone who is a subject-matter expert in AML regulatory requirements for broker/dealers. The AML team not only supports the firm’s financial professionals, but also its individual investors and internal partners. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic support for governance, policies, and regulatory initiatives to effectively manage risk, as well as acting as a point of escalation.

Key responsibilities

  • Overseeing transaction monitoring function, including assisting with exception reports; assigning alerts to BSA/AML analysts, providing guidance and support to analysts, and addressing or escalating issues with the AML director

  • Developing metrics and reporting measures as directed and reporting results to management

  • Managing the submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), consistent with regulatory requirements

  • Conducting quality assurance reviews of alerts, cases, and SARs, providing feedback to analysts

  • Assisting with regulatory examinations and internal audit reviews

  • Helping with department projects, including risk assessments, gap analysis, and updates to policies, procedures, and workflows

  • Supporting the ongoing development, delivery, and tracking of AML training

  • Ensuring that the team is acting in accordance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures

  • Setting performance expectations for staff and promoting ongoing development through training, regular feedback, and new opportunities

  • Overseeing sanctions screening process

  • Acting as initial point of escalation for AML and elder financial exploitation issues

Core strengths

  • Understanding of U.S. AML laws and regulations as well as laws and regulations relating to elder financial exploitation

  • Ability to understand changes to AML laws and regulations and report impact of changes to management

  • Detailed investigation and documentation skills

  • Superior written and verbal skills

  • Aptitude for fostering teamwork and the ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders

  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment

  • Organized and able to work independently

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., business or accounting) or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in AML as an individual contributor, preferably in the securities industry

  • Management experience strongly preferred

  • CAMS or CFE certification preferred

  • FINRA Series 7 securities registration or the ability to attain one within six months

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with Actimize a plus
