Job Purpose
The IT Program Manager role oversees program, delivery and execution of business prioritized IT projects. Primarily responsible for providing guidance and structure to project teams, comprised of a combination of vendor and FTE resources, in completing their tasks, coordinating group work and ensuring appropriate communications to business and/or IT stakeholders.
The IT Program Manager works closely with the IT Business Partner to ensure the success of all projects/programs under their supervision. They direct a team of project Managers that plans, executes, and delivers all projects on time, on budget, and within scope in accordance with business priorities. In addition, this role will provide management support for the delivery teams by removing impediments to delivery success.
The scope of managed programs and projects include multi-million dollar efforts which may be delivered through a collection of teams across National Grid and/or a team of contracted resources. The IT Program Manager is accountable to ensure the success of all projects/programs under their supervision.
Key Accountabilities
Mentor team members to develop skills and enable them to remove impediments
Collaborate with the PMO, develop processes and tools to manage capacity
Direct, monitor, and review project activities, including program costs, operational budgets, staffing, program resources and program risks
Drive improvements that address common obstacles to improve performance
Manage 3rd party vendor relationships to create capacity flexibility and scalability
Manage delivery team performance metrics and reporting leveraging PMO standards
Resolve resourcing and asset conflicts using prioritization and negotiation
Ensure the program implements changes which achieve the objectives that have been set and that the business benefits are realized
Undertake formal reviews of the program and its achievements
Engage in quality assurance and risk management activities to ensure project deliverables are met according to IT and client requirements
Ensure financial performance targets for the assigned projects are met and proactively manage change control process both internally and externally
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Manage and influence stakeholders.
Identify resource constraints and work with personnel Managers on creative solutions. Manage the unexpected gracefully and effectively.
Ensure effective cross-functional teamwork among project team members including both internal and external business, IT and vendors
Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change, work beyond the IT department to further optimize and improve existing process
Monitor project schedules and scope to ensure both remain on track. Initiate and implement appropriate actions
Accountable for budget across assigned project(s) including monthly forecasting and variance reporting. Collaborate with finance to initiate monthly invoicing and reconciliation.
Contribute to development and management of Program Delivery metrics (On time and On Budget)
Qualifications
Educated to degree level; MBA or other relevant advanced degree an advantage.
10+ years of professional experience demonstrating responsibility for managing teams
8+ years of program/project management leadership experience successfully delivering challenging and complex technology programs/projects involving working with globally based employees and development partners.
Excellent customer and stakeholder management focus
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage complex and varied interpersonal relationships to successfully complete activities
Experience coordinating procurement events (RFP/RFI) and developing statements of work.
Experience managing multiple vendors to deliver the full scope of programs.
Experience conducting and leading team meetings to manage the schedule, identify risks and review project deliverables.
Good customer focus, attitude and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage complex and varied interpersonal relationships to successfully complete projects.
Excellent ability to organize time and information to successfully complete projects.
Ability to lead and model behaviours for other team members.
