Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, D&I Strategy & Operations in Waltham, Massachusetts

How will you make an impact?

The D&I Director will lead the execution and alignment of the D&I strategic framework, governance, and stakeholder management needed for the success and advancement of diversity, inclusion and equity at Thermo Fisher Scientific. They will work closely with the VP, Global Diversity & Inclusion to lead the design and deployment of D&I programs and initiatives in support of the enterprise global D&I strategic plan. They will be a key architect of the D&I Center of Excellence (COE) and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, providing strategic partnership/guidance/consultation to optimize the impact and effectiveness of the D&I COE.

The ideal candidate will be is an accomplished diversity and inclusion leader with established credibility in developing and driving diversity and inclusion strategies within a large, global and complex organization. They will also have a track record of driving systemic diversity and inclusion results, including workforce representation objectives and business alignment within a large, global, and highly matrixed organization.

The D&I Director is results-oriented and resourceful individual who is capable of quickly taking control of their responsibilities and establishing themselves as a credible strategic partner. This role will partner with key HR stakeholders to identify and understand critical cross functional interdependencies, including resources, and effectively prioritize D&I program or project objectives within the HR enterprise ecosystem.

What will you do?

  • Acts as a D&I subject matter expert by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge, and taking a balanced consultative and systemic approach to enable the organization to capitalize on D&I for global success

  • Develop effective global programs; the position also improves existing processes and creates solutions to break down barriers for inclusion and creates a great place to work for all.

  • Partner with Group D&I Directors to ensure D&I strategy is embedded in all areas of the employee life cycle (recruitment, retention, development, performance management, success planning) within the businesses.

  • Raise the capability of the organization to further advance diversity and inclusion efforts; in collaboration with L&D, provide subject matter expertise and partner in the development and implementation of D&I education and awareness programs across sites.

  • Manage the day to day functions of the D&I COE, including budget, department meetings calendars, communications

  • Manage the D&I budget during the annual operation plan (AOP); monthly accrual and forecasting of expenses

  • Work in concert with D&I champions (those in HR and others working on D&I efforts) to build a strong internal and external reputation as a great place to work for all and cultivate a strong external network of appropriate D&I connections.

  • Energize and engage cross-functional teams to achieve our vision, demonstrating a high-level of emotional intelligence, openness to change, and the willingness to merge ideas to bring forward the best solutions.

  • Work in collaboration with executive leaders, HR leadership, talent acquisition, and others on identifying and minimizing the impact of any potential systematic barriers and maximize the impact of diversity and inclusion.

  • In collaboration with Talent Acquisition, manage external partnerships that facilitate diverse pipelining opportunities to create a workforce that is representative of the world; support our employer brand building efforts to reinforce the employee value proposition.

  • Identify, develop, and foster relationships with industry thought leaders, professional diversity organizations, and community partners to strengthen and expand our brand value and talent attraction.

  • Engage in the identification of diversity and inclusion best practices and benchmarks as input to designing next in class DEI programs

  • Drive cultural change in support of Thermo Fisher Scientific's ability to attract and retain world-class diverse talent and to be responsive to customers' needs.

How will you get here?

  • BA/BS in business management, business analysis, organizational development, or a related degree

  • 10+ years of talent management, change management, program management, org development and or other related experience, with at least (3) years at the management/leadership level required

  • Prior D&I training and/or related human resource experience, particularly in supporting diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives or experience as a business leader focused on supporting diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives

  • A highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals to engage team, peers, and management.

  • Experience and credibility as a leader in an environment where the ability to influence, work across a complex matrix, and build relationships is critical.

  • Influences others without direct authority to achieve solutions to meet organization's objectives, and is proactive in providing solutions, resolving issues and overcoming hurdles to results. Effectively collaborates with partners to resolve.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and presentation)

Preferred Hiring Criteria

  • Master degree in business management, business analysis, organizational development, or a related degree

  • 5+ years of experience in D&I-related work

  • Understanding of the life sciences/scientific work environment is preferred.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria

  • Bachelors degree

  • Demonstrated experience in helping organizations align diversity and inclusion practices with business priorities to support individual and organizational performance

  • Self-directed and self-motivated with a demonstrated strength in planning, organizing, and delivering multiple projects and tasks with aggressive deadlines
