Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, D&I Strategic Optimization in Waltham, Massachusetts

How will you make an impact?

The D&I Director is a results-oriented and resourceful individual who is capable of quickly taking control of their responsibilities and establishing themselves as a credible strategic partner. The individual has demonstrated skills in the following areas: program and project management focused on outcomes; change management, data and situational analysis; cross group coordination across all levels of the organization; excellent oral and written communications.

Successful candidates will have experience managing projects and programs across multiple organizations with numerous stakeholders up to executive level. You must have experience developing and delivering defined project objectives, be data driven, detail-oriented, and have excellent problem-solving abilities. You will be asked to operate effectively in an ambiguous environment and must have a demonstrated track record of managing multiple concurrent projects and driving them to completion using project/program management tools. You will also need to be highly collaborative and able to influence without authority while also being able to work with significant autonomy. This role will partner with key HR stakeholders to identify and understand critical cross functional interdependencies, including resources, and effectively prioritize D&I program or project objectives within the HR enterprise ecosystem.

What will you do?

  • Acts as a D&I subject matter expert by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge; takes a balanced consultative and systemic approach to enable the organization to capitalize on D&I for global success

  • Regularly measure and analyze D&I strategic programs, priorities and initiatives

  • Provide consultative support to identify opportunities, interventions, and initiatives for improvement of D&I Strategic Plan

  • Leads and facilitates D&I optimization initiatives including, but not limited to, process improvement, design thinking, environmental scanning, benchmarking, etc. in alignment with Thermo Fisher HR's design principles, process tools and technologies

  • Strong process improvement, modeling and data analysis skills; demonstrated experience in taking data, business requirements and ideas and crafting processes, process maps and operating procedures; maintain close relationship with the HR PMO and Process Excellence team to facilitate consistency in approach

  • Partner with HR Analytics team to develop key analyses and metrics dashboards to measure program effectiveness, inspire action and drive outcomes across the organization

  • Drive alignment with D&I teams across groups, functions, and regions to ensure data/analytics-related needs are consistent and standardized

  • Develop effective global programs; the position also improves existing processes and creates solutions to break down barriers for inclusion, equity and belonging

  • Raise the capability of the organization to further advance diversity and inclusion efforts; in collaboration with L&D, provide subject matter expertise and partner in the development and implementation of D&I training and internal programs across sites

  • Work in concert with the D&I champions and key business partners to build a strong internal and external reputation as a great place to work for all; cultivate a strong external network of appropriate D&I partners.

  • Measure the impact of diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) strategy, programs and initiatives through quantitative and qualitative methods

  • Ensure preparation of diversity metrics/measurements on a regular frequency and communicates progress against plans that reinforce accountability throughout the organization

  • Energizes and engages cross-functional teams to achieve our vision, demonstrating a high-level of emotional intelligence, openness to change, and the willingness to merge ideas to bring forward the best solutions

  • Work in collaboration with executive leaders, HR leadership, talent acquisition, and others to identify and minimize the impact of any potential systematic barriers and enablers of DEI

  • In collaboration with Talent Acquisition, manage external partnerships that facilitate diverse pipelining opportunities to create a workforce; support our employer branding and reinforcement of the employee value proposition

  • Engage in the identification of diversity and inclusion best practices and benchmarks as input to designing and implementing initiatives

  • Drive cultural change in support of Thermo Fisher Scientific's goal to attract and retain world-class diverse talent and to be responsive to customers' needs

  • Effectively prioritize D&I strategic programs, priorities and initiatives requiring P&O enablement or support (PMO and Process Excellence, HR Insights & Analytics, HRTS) to ensure thoughtful and consistent delivery across the organization

How will you get here?

  • BA/BS in business management, business analysis, organizational development, or a related degree

  • 10+ years of change management, program management and or other technical analytics-related experience, with at least 3 years at the management/leadership level required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in human resources, D&I, organizational development/org behavior, or talent management work

  • Experience with data insights and modeling strongly preferred

  • A highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals to engage team, peers, and management

  • Strong interpersonal awareness and skills with particular emphasis on being assertive, supportive and active listening; have a keen understanding and awareness of their own diversity and how it impacts and influences their role in D&I

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy and improvement opportunities

  • Experience and credibility as a leader in an environment where the ability to influence, work across a complex matrix, and build relationships is critical

  • Influences others without direct authority to achieve solutions to meet organization's objectives, and is proactive in providing solutions, resolving issues and overcoming hurdles to results. Effectively collaborates with partners to resolve

  • Ability to motivate, influence and optimize senior leadership, stakeholders and peer groups

Preferred Hiring Criteria

  • Master degree in business management, business analysis, organizational development, or a related degree; Master's degree preferred

  • Has experience in developing or managing Affirmative Action and EEO policies, procedures and compliance metrics

  • Has experience managing a wide range of diversity and inclusion metrics

  • Understanding of the life sciences/scientific work environment is preferred

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria

  • Bachelors degree (minimum)

  • Strong analytical skills, including modeling, data management, analysis and knowledge of diversity and inclusion key performance indicators

  • Embraces quantitative and qualitative data as integral to developing strategy and driving change

  • Self-directed and self-motivated with a demonstrated strength in planning, organizing, and delivering multiple projects and tasks with aggressive deadlines

  • Strong presentation skills, including experience presenting to senior leaders

  • Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment
