Job Purpose

National Grid IT team is currently seeking a technically talented Software Engineer to work on solutions within our DevOps Tools and Engineering team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and building DevOps related solutions utilized across IT. The candidate will have a strong software engineering background, can build and extend various technical frameworks utilized within the DevOps Tools and Engineering team, create and maintain Continuous Integration and Delivery (CICD) pipelines used to automatically build, package, deploy, and test applications. The candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent problem solving skills, and strong communication skills

Key Accountabilities

• Software Engineering experience building and maintaining technical solutions using languages, such as, Java or Python.

• Ability to automate processes using DevOps tools and capabilities, such as, Jenkins, Groovy, Ansible, YAML, Bash, Selenium, .etc.

• Technical experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining DevOps tools, such as Jenkins, Groovy, Ansible, Bitbucket (GIT), etc.

• Experience building solutions that are secure and scalable.

• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

• Strong Linux skills


• Creates Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CICD) Pipelines using Jenkins, Sonarqube, Artifactory, Checkmarx, Ansible, and Selenium.

• Installs and configures DevOps tools, such as Jenkins, Sonarqube, Checkmarx, Selenium, etc.

• Builds and maintains technical frameworks used within the DevOps Platform.

• Develops scripts to automate manual tasks within the DevOps Tools and Engineering team.

• Plans and executes work using Jira

• Troubleshoots and resolves production incidents within the DevOps platform or with DevOps pipelines.

• Ensures DevOps solutions are in line with National Grid Security and SOX Policies.

• Develops technical proof of concepts to assess new tools or implementation approaches.

• Develops reusable DevOps components to support standardized pipelines and code reuse.

• Works with various Software Engineering teams to implement DevOps solutions


Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

• 3 years of Software Engineering experience.

• 1-3 years of DevOps tools related experience.

• Technical experience working with DevOps tools, such as Jenkins, Ansible, Bitbucket (GIT), etc.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Great attention to detail.

• Must be willing and comfortable learning new technologies, as needed.

• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

• Strong team player and able to partner effectively across the IT organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

• Experience in any public cloud (Azure, GCP, AWS).

• Experience using an Agile Methodology
