Thermo Fisher Scientific Commercial Financial Analyst, Americas in Waltham, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Products Division (LPD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a high-reaching Financial Analyst to join the Americas Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Team. The Financial Analyst will have a substantial role in Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Month and Quarter end close, and partner with operations and business partners to drive overall improvement within the division, to ensure that financial commitments are met.

Responsibilities include:

Provide solid business understanding through analysis

  • Generate and automate financial reports. This includes the Annual Operating Plan and the weekly, monthly and quarterly updates.

  • Responsible for the monthly closing process, financial documents and variance analysis.

  • Responsible for aligning and loading into PLN 2.0. Coordinate with the business units to ensure alignment in reporting.

  • Management of customer, regional and industry profitability trends and analysis

  • Audit the commercial cost centers for appropriate cost alignment with the Bus and ensure that the commercial team’s costs are located in the accurate cost centers.

  • Create and provide commercial leaders with cost reports and spend budgets through creation and utilization of Power BI. Provide variance guidance.

2) Strong business support and ability to work across the matrix

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in and influence a complex matrix structure

  • Become an active and contributing member of the LPD Finance organization

  • Driving the weekly, monthly, and quarterly forecasts with the business units and commercial sales Directors.

  • Support the preparation of the annual Commercial STRAP and AOP.

3) Drive PPI (Practical Process Improvement) throughout the organization

  • Proactively identify and communicate areas for operational and financial improvement

  • Participate on PPI projects to drive process and efficiency improvement, develop and implement meaningful financial metrics, partner on implementation and measure results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration

  • 2-4 years of direct experience in financial analysis, reporting, and accounting preferably within a large, matrixed organization

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, process good judgement, and prioritize projects and time effectively

  • Commitment to continuous learning, career progression and development, embrace additional responsibilities and seek opportunities to stretch capabilities

  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge strong professional relationships with peers, and upper management

  • Excel expertise with advanced knowledge of pivots, charts, formulas and modelling along with ability to mine large data sets.

  • Power BI or other web-based reporting tool with experience in automation of reporting

  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management or other financial databases preferred
