About the Role

We are currently seeking an Energy Modeler / Senior Sustainability Engineer for our office in Boston or Burlington, MA. They will play a critical role in developing energy models, performing energy analysis and providing technical expertise to support the design and optimization of high-performance buildings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy modeling for buildings, a passion for sustainability, and excellent analytical and communication skills. The ability to read building system engineering documents, understand building system operations, understand building code compliance, and utility incentive programs is required. Other duties include:

  • Develop detailed energy models for various building types using industry standard software like eQuest.

  • Perform energy simulations and analyses to evaluate building performance and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and other stakeholders to integrate energy modeling results into design decisions.

  • Conduct energy audits and on-site assessments to collect data for model calibration and validation.

  • Prepare technical reports, presentations and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.

  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies and best practices in energy modeling and sustainable building design.

  • Support the development of energy efficiency strategies, including HVAC system optimization, renewable energy integration and building envelope improvements.

  • Assist with preparation of energy-related certifications and compliance documentation (i.e. LEED, ASHRAE, local energy codes).

Position Qualifications (Required)

  • Five plus years’ experience in building energy modeling, protocols and analysis

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Building Science, Energy Engineering or equivalent technical training/certification

  • Basic building system knowledge / operations and understanding of ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G Energy Modeling requirements.

  • LEED Accredited Professional or LEED Green Associate certification.

  • Operational understanding of and experience with eQuest

  • High degree of analytical skill and ability

  • Knowledge of and experience with LEED documentation and modeling requirements

  • Self-starter and ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to multitask.

Position Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Professional certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or BEMP (Building Energy Modeling Professional) are highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of utility incentive application process is a plus.
