Covenant Health SYSTEM DIRECTOR EX OPERATIONS PAC in Tewksbury, Massachusetts


The System Director of Employee Experience Operations - PAC has overall accountability for providing leadership, structuring, planning, and strategic direction associated with Employee Experience Operations at each of the Covenant member post-acute care facilities. Leadership responsibilities include, partnering with local and system stakeholders to implement and sustain initiatives around talent acquisition, performance management & employee relations, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion initiatives, HRIS operations, learning & development and total rewards.


1.Employee Experience Expertise and Leadership

  • Demonstrates an understanding of strategic and tactical Employee Experience functions and processes

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of collaborative decision-making methods and skills. Maintains openness to others’ ideas and makes decisions based upon experience, data, facts and reasoned judgment.

  • Ability to plan and lead staffing initiatives, including recruitment, supervision, evaluation and development of staff in conjunction with Talent Acquisition. Serves as local/in-house workforce and people management expert.

  • Understands business issues that are specific to the facility, demonstrates an awareness of the impact of human capital issues on the facility and how that relates to Covenant Health overall.

  • Strategic capabilities, including the ability to focus on clarifying organizational priorities and goals as the basis for evaluating the current and needed workplace knowledge and capabilities.

  • Ability to assess and diagnose functional, leadership and motivational gaps and strengths in the development and execution of results-based succession and career plans. Collaborating with L & LD to implement and help develop where appropriate training and development opportunities to maximize employee potential

  • Prioritizes employee experience and engagement, collaborates with local and system leaders to execute on all local & system engagement initiatives

  • Focus on clarifying organizational priorities and goals as the basis for evaluating the knowledge and capabilities needed in the workplace.

  • Conducts business with an understanding and respect for the differences in rules, customs, laws, regulations and business operations between own culture and all cultures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and leadership in maintaining the appropriate confidentiality and security of employee information.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal, state, and local regulatory policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and leadership ability to maintain compliance of state, federal and local ethics guidelines and policies.

  • Ethics knowledge and administration within a healthcare setting, including the Catholic Ethical and Religious Directives (ERD’s).

  • Demonstrate a capacity for understanding the business operations and functions within the organization

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between effective human resources management and core business functions

  • Understands organizational metrics and their correlation to business success

  • Fiscal/budget knowledge and leadership


    1.Communication, Collaboration and Coordination

  • Recognizes and seizes opportunities to listen to the perspectives of key leaders, stakeholders and partners locally and across the system; act as key EX liaison between local and system structures

  • Ensures accurate and complete information flows freely through all stakeholders through the use of appropriate media and methods

  • Actively engages a broad range of resources in developing and executing operational goals and objectives

    1. Coach and Develop
  • Works collaboratively with direct reports in setting annual and “just in time” performance and learning goals, and preparing challenging performance and learning plans that are aligned to Covenant’s mission and values

  • Provides direct reports with the knowledge, skills and tools need to successfully execute his/her performance goals

  • Deliberately sets aside time to prepare and conduct regular coaching sessions with direct reports to share critical information, and to plan, review, improve and praise performance

  • At regular intervals, utilizes a structured process for asking for, receiving and acting on constructive feedback from direct reports and key stakeholders

  • Creates an environment that enables individuals to fully utilize their talents by making them feel supported, significant, encouraged, respected and empowered

  • Successfully leads, motivates and helps team members navigate through administrative and operational changes within the matrixed setting of a healthcare system/corporate setting

  • Utilizes a high degree of self-awareness to align leadership style to meet the diverse work styles, perspectives and needs of their direct reports

  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire innovation in human resources delivery and outcomes through the encouragement of team members to pursue learning and problem solving in their areas of personal interest and passion

  • Recognizes, celebrates and appropriately rewards team/team member accomplishments

  • Drives the department to achieve and surpass business goals and objectives

  • Holds direct reports accountable for applying the knowledge and skills learned through developmental experiences to achieving performance goals

  • Prioritizes to make the important urgent and is intolerant of postponement


    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree

    • At least 5 years of HR supervisory experience in healthcare preferred.

    • SPHR or equivalent HR certification preferred
