Field and Safety Instruments (FSI), a business segment of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is the leader in field based scientific instrumentation and radiation detection equipment. Our products use FTIR, Raman, XRF, NIR and LIBS technologies in a handheld format. We design solutions that are used by the military, law enforcement, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and industrial clients to assist them in making rapid decisions.

How will you make an impact?

With your proven technical experience in product development, project management and excellence in engineering execution, you will lead projects implemented by a multidisciplinary team of Engineers, Scientist and Project Managers in the development of our next generation portable and handheld instruments!

What will you do?

  • Drive the execution and delivery of new products

  • Lead a team of mechanical, electrical and process engineers to design new products and subsequently transfer to manufacturing

  • Provide mentorship, coaching and career growth opportunities to the engineering team

  • Develop and manage project budgets and resource plans across the team, applying agile techniques to re-balance when necessary to meet the business objectives

  • Establish plans and complete product development activities to meet project goals including specification development, design reviews, prototype development, pilot build and product release readiness

  • Ensure outstanding product development processes including ISO compliance and alignment to the Stage Gate product development process

  • Develop and deliver project status reports, proactively identifying, resolving, and presenting any issues that may impact the team’s ability to meet key goals

  • Drive and document FMEA workshops with multi-disciplinary development team

How will you get here?

Education

BS/MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field or equivalent

Experience

  • 8+ years of engineering experience

  • Proven experience managing engineering teams

  • Proven track record of strong engineering principals including, technical and analytical skills

  • Prior experience with analytical instrumentation, portable electronic design, and knowledge of optical or atomic spectroscopy techniques are highly desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to make decisions with ambiguous data to drive towards project goals

  • Ability to work within a matrix organization to accomplish business goals and gain alignment from key partners
