Raytheon Technologies Security Software System Engineer in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

This is your opportunity to join the Missile Defense Radar Software Team in Tewksbury, Massachusetts as a System Security Software Engineer.

The Missile Defense Radar Software Department’s mission is to provide world class Missile Defense and Surveillance Radar Software to be used in radar systems deployed on land and sea. Our software teams employ Agile development to rapidly and continuously deploy capabilities for our customers. We strive for technical excellence by drawing upon a diverse workforce whose knowledge base covers the complete spectrum of modern computing languages and platforms.

As a System Security software engineer, the candidate will be involved with software and firmware design, development, integration, and testing of real-time radar software. The candidate will be responsible for applying System Security principles to the design and implementation of hardened Radar software applications. Our software applications are developed using C++ and Java programming languages on a variety of computing platforms running Linux or Unix operating systems.

This position requires understanding of real-time software design and the performance implications associated with specific System Security implementations. The candidate will require the ability to understand how their efforts affect the “big picture” of the radar system and be able to develop or review detail solutions at the source code level.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance within one year of employment. This position can be a Salary Grade G08 or Salary Grade G09 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and requirements for the position.


  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math or related engineering/science discipline

  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering

  • Experience working in a team environment developing software applications

  • 2+ years working in a Linux/Unix environment

  • Experience working on embedded systems

  • 1 year of experience with C / C++ or Java


  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Software Engineering

  • Experience designing, implementing, testing, or fielding real-time security-oriented solutions on Department of Defense (DoD) programs (embedded experience highly preferred)

  • Experience using security-relevant tools and devices for security auditing, network security, host/server security, communication security, or policy management.

  • Experience in Agile and DevSecOps environments

  • Knowledge of the Linux Device Driver model

  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum/Kanban frameworks and development environments

  • Experience using software configuration management and bug tracking tools

  • Experience with Python / Perl

Knowledge of modern computer architectures and hardware technologies including:

  • x86 architectures


  • Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)

  • Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs)
