Job Summary

Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) is currently seeking a senior test equipment design engineer to join the Test Development Department (TDD). This is an excellent position for a test equipment engineer who has a background in digital test, analog test, RF test, or power supply test and a desire to apply those skills to combined hardware/software test solutions. The primary responsibilities will be the development and implementation of test capabilities leveraging a strong working knowledge of test equipment hardware and software technologies.

You will be joining a diverse project team for the design and development of test equipment and test solutions for testing radar, sonar, communication, missile, combat control systems, subsystems and components for various programs within RMD. These products can contain Analog, RF, Microwave, Acoustic, High Power, and Digital Electronic technology and can also have Software (embedded, firmware, Signal Processing, VHDL, etc.). Test Development Engineers are involved from the beginning of product design as a concurrent engineering effort, continuing into supporting engineering design verification testing, production test and final system level verification and sell-off; includes in-plant or field testing.

Typical test solutions include simulation, stimulation and data acquisition capability to provide stimulus and response test environments for verifying functional performance. Typical test systems encompass Hardware In the Loop Simulators, Custom Automatic Test Equipment, Commercial Automatic Test Equipment, High Power, Mixed-Signal, Digital and Environmental Stress Screening systems, mechanical holding fixtures, adapters, and interface cabling and harnessing.

Responsibilities to Anticipate

  • Develop test hardware, software, and/or firmware through its development cycle, from requirements definition through deployment at manufacturing or customer facilities. These test capabilities may span disciplines (Power, RF, Analog, Digital) and domains (hardware, software, firmware).

  • Actively identify test readiness issues and optimizations through development lifecycle.

  • Understand and meet established project budget, schedule, and performance commitments

  • Guide mechanical engineering and/or suppliers through test adapter design activities, with moderate support from senior engineers.

  • Function as an individual contributor, working autonomously with limited supervision. Understand the role of a small team lead.

  • Engage in personal technical growth.

  • Prepare and clearly present your work product to at project status meetings.

  • Support Manufacturing operations, including on-site troubleshooting and debugging, both independently and in collaboration with design engineering teams.

    Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)

  • At least 18 months' experience in engineering design and development environment with some exposure to Test Equipment Design and Development tasks

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
