Baystate Health Material Handler I in Springfield, Massachusetts

Summary:

The Material Handler performs a wide variety of duties related to ordering and replenishment of stock and linen to standard par levels in addition to the collection, transportation, documentation and disposal of multiple wastes streams including Recycled ( single stream mixed material, cardboard and patient healthcare information), Municipal, Infectious and Cytotoxic waste according to established workflows, waste transportation and segregation policies and training documents May be required to operate equipment including stacking lift, radiation detector, dock leveler and trash compactors. May be required to push/pull carts weighing several hunder pounds.

Maintenance of clean and sanitary waste collection points, chute rooms, loading dock, storage and cart wash space is essential and required at all times. Must monitor outgoing waste and linen on an ongoing basis to ensure proper separation of waste, protection of patient healthcare information, and compliance with applicable regulations. May be required to conduct periodic waste audits as needed. Responsible for related documentation including shipping manifests and waste labelling. Responsible for loading & unloading trailers and securing loads according to DOT and other regulatory requirements.

Material Handlers will be required to interface with internal & external customers and co-workers in the planning, prioritization and completion of duties. All tasks must be completed according to job aides and duty lists. May be required to use handheld or tablet technology for documentation of work completed. Material Handler should participate in and comply with Quality Assurance expectations generated through use of TeamCoach and other QA applications. Material Handlers must support patient experience (HCAHPS) initiatives and expedient patient flow / room turnover in completion of their duties. Material Handlers will be required to adhere to all Infection Prevention policies surrounding disinfection, isolation precaution and standard precautions to prevent potential exposures. Must participate in departmental huddles, meetings and required in-service training including DOT training upon request.

2) Responsible for collection, transportation, documentation and disposal of multiple wastes streams including Recycled ( single stream mixed material, cardboard and patient healthcare information), Municipal, Infectious and Cytotoxic waste according to established workflows, waste transportation and segregation policies and training documents.

3) May be required to operate equipment including stacking lift, radiation detector, dock leveler and trash compactors. May be required to push/pull carts weighing several hundred pounds.
