American Outdoor Brands Corporation Low Voltage Technician in Springfield, Massachusetts

The Low Voltage Technician will install, service, repair, and maintain wiring, equipment and fixtures for a variety of specialized low voltage equipment throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, program, and service electrical equipment.

  • Assist end users with set-up, operation and configuration changes as necessary.

  • Replace components in a variety of systems as needed: Network/Data & Wireless, Security (MDI), & Fire Alarm systems.

  • Estimate time and materials for needed repairs, upgrades or equipment replacement.

  • Schedule routine preventive maintenance work and maintain accurate records and logs of such activity.

  • Requisition parts, components and supplies as required.

  • Install cable, conduit or fiber optic runs throughout the facility.

  • Work from plans, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and work orders.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.

  • Two (2) years of experience in the repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of low voltage systems.

  • Class D (Systems Technician) License preferred.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Must have up-to-date knowledge of building codes.

  • Must have the ability to read blueprints correctly and prepare a sketch of projects if needed.

  • Ability to interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, blueprints or work orders.

  • Ability to effectively diagnose problems with a variety of low voltage systems.

  • Knowledge of the proper use and care of electronic test equipment and tools associated with the trade.

  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively and collaboratively with professionals at all levels.

  • Ability to maintain simple and concise records, prepare accurate reports, and maintain inventories of equipment or warranties.

  • Ability to work independently when needed, with limited direct supervision.

  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials - up to fifty (50) pounds regularly.

  • May use ladders and/or work in cramped spaces.

  • May drive a vehicle to and from work sites, suppliers and contractors.

  • Standing for extended periods of time.

  • Frequent bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching.

  • Frequent reaching above the head to store or retrieve materials.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools.

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

  • Seeing to perform skilled work and read meters or gauges.

Work Environment:

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting.

The work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. Employees may be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting. Indoor and outdoor work will be required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Mandatory wearing of certified safety glasses.

  • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.

  • All employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks.

  • May be required depending on position:

  • Annual vision update in Medical Department.

  • Involvement in the hearing conservation program.

  • Involvement in the lead surveillance program.

  • Wearing of safety certified shoes/boots.

  • Participation in the stretching program.
