Eversource Energy Lead Electrical & Controls Engineer, LNG in Southborough, Massachusetts

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHmr45H8xZE)The Lead Electrical & Controls Engineer is responsible for the execution of technical projects, supervision of staff, development of standards, multi-year planning, and technical support of LNG and LPG facilities. In addition, this position supports the LNG Operations group by assigning resources as necessary to support the evaluation of system failures, support plant maintenance, and development of technical procedures. Responsible for ensuring that the Eversource LNG and LPG facilities are designed and maintained to high quality standards that provide safe and reliable service. This position is responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work performed by other Engineers and Instrument Technicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops staff; approves time and conducts performance reviews. Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by Instrumentation and Controls Technicians and more-junior electrical and controls engineers.
  • Designs systems or installations to fit the Company’s objectives conforming to industry standards, guidelines and regulations of federal, state and local authorities.
  • This individual will be expected to have a high level of knowledge of; electrical switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, actuated valves, transmitters, PLC and DCS systems.
  • Performs site layouts and prepares necessary documents for procurement, permitting and construction.
  • Specifies and procures materials and equipment. Coordinates in-house and contract labor.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of projects.
  • Responsible for the development, justification and approval of project approval documents.
  • Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to equipment, and the preparation of permit applications, are completed accurately and on time.
  • Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers within the group and greater Gas Business to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Reviews purchase requisitions, and invoices related to departmental activity. Monitors and provides reports on project and departmental budgets. Provides variances from scheduled and cost targets as required.
  • Coordinates construction activities with customers, contractors, States, Municipalities and internal departments.

  • Assists junior staff and reviews their work.
  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to equipment performance, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the facilities.
  • Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail.
  • Strong knowledge of plant systems including, but not limited to; gas pretreatment, liquefaction, boil off gas handling, cryogenic tank storage, plant utilities, firewater, low and medium voltage electrical systems and plant control systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamental engineering disciplines, plant construction and maintenance work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable governmental codes and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70 and 70E
  • Experience working as part of an engineering, maintenance, technology or construction project team in support of power, manufacturing or process plant construction and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or relateddiscipline.

Experience :

  • Ten years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • LNG, Oil & Gas, or Power Plant experience aplus.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
