Job Description

HII USG has an exciting Systems Engineering role, with a focus on autonomous vehicle payloads (mission sensors). This role will be a subject matter expert (SME) within the business regarding the selection of sensors that autonomous platforms use for the purposes of achieving maritime mission objectives, including hydrography, object/target detection, and intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance. The Vehicle Payload SME will work with fellow system engineers and product engineers in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment to optimize autonomous vehicle design to incorporate these sensors, via technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analyses, and supportability.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

  • Expertise in sonar sensors (real aperture, synthetic, forward-looking, obstacle avoidance, multi-beam bathymetric, etc.)

  • 5+ years of experience in fields of underwater sensors (acoustic, electromagnetic, magnetic, etc.)

  • 5+ years of experience working on vehicle platforms (sea, ground, or air) to form systems-philosophy perspectives

  • 5+ years working in a Department of Defense product environment

  • Experience working in an R&D environment, including hardware/software requirements definition, design, test, integration, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Systems Engineering

  • Must have Secret Clearance #LI-MH1

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience operating unmanned underwater vehicles or remotely operated vehicles (Mission planning, mission operation, post-mission analysis)

  • Experience with integrating Doppler Velocity Loggers (DVLs) into maritime platforms

  • Experience with integrating navigational sensors (GPS, INS, IMU, Compass) into maritime platforms

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
