We have an exciting opportunity to join our Systems Group as a Naval Architect to support our rapidly expanding classes of autonomous vessels. As HII Unmanned Systems continues to push the boundaries of multi-domain autonomy, one of our primary focuses is the architecture of our underwater vehicles to meet the challenges of their missions. The Naval Architect will be the technical expert directing naval architecture on new autonomous platform designs , from development, integration, and testing, while keeping in consideration the platform life cycle needs, through manufacturing, fielding, and sustainment.

What you will do
Performs routine naval architecture work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of design and/or analyses of ship hull, foundation, superstructure, arrangements and hull form characteristics tasks. As directed, applies selected techniques and procedures to assignments involving ship design and ship performance analyses. Assists in the solution of difficult problems involved in areas of assignment. Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader systems design, performance analyse, or hull form characteristic assignments of more experienced naval architects. The duties described herein cover major duties as required. However, this does not exclude the requirement of performing related duties under normal conditions, and other duties directed by supervision.
What we are looking for
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
Experience using CAD and Engineering Analysis Tools: Solidworks, Abaqus, Star CCM, Rhinoceros, Matlab
Experience in development of marine platforms, hull form, structural strength, stability, weight, speed, ship motion, trim, seaworthiness, and power and endurance.
Experience in calculating hydrostatics including maintaining weight and balance data bases for vehicles/platforms
Familiar with use of equilibrium polygons
Experience in calculating hydrodynamics including resistance (drag), propulsion , and stability and control
Experience in determination of size, shape, and location of platform equipment (payloads, sensors, machinery, etc)
Experience preparing specifications for the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of platforms as it relates to the marine architecture
Must have active secret clearance #LI-MH1
Bonus Points for
Experience in assessing and reporting of risk engineering and operations as required in preparation of system and platform designs
Experience in setting engineering policy for compliance to naval architecture requirements
Experience developing and managing cost and schedule with Excel or MS Project
May require working in an office, industrial or shipboard environment. Able to climb ladders and tolerate confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. May require the lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Office environment normally encountered, with industrial/shipboard exposure to be expected on occasion.
