Universal Forest Products General Manager of Operations in Plainville, Massachusetts

The General Manager of Operations is responsible for the profit and loss for a Company location, and it is responsible for the overall management and coordination of framing operations, project management, estimating, sales, and administration functions of the location. Works under general direction of an RVP; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Leads and directs the work of others. Must Office out of Plainville, MA location * Staffs, develops, and coaches the framing operations, estimating, project management sales, production, and administrative management team, evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required. * Ensures that all assets are properly managed and safeguarded. * Develops operating budgets and cost reporting and project budget recommendations. * Evaluates framing operations performance to budget. Plans and initiates corrective action as required. * Develops and/or approves framing projects and sales objectives, goals and operating short and long-term plans. * Ensures that job classifications and compensation levels are relevant to the labor market and are in-line with cost goals. * Negotiates contracts which are then approved by the VP responsible. * Responsible for operating within established parameters. * Responsible for executing an optimal purchasing strategy to maximize margins on the buy side. It is responsible for ordering or making the final decision on all project purchases and labor staffing decisions. * Ensures that project pricing is optimal to ensure maximum profitability levels for the plant. * Responsible for optimizing operations with proper labor, materials and timeframes. * Approves account payables and payroll. * Makes sales calls and interacts with customers to expand business and develop positive relationships. * Develops and/or approves specific operating policies and procedures as required. * Ensures the operation complies with all applicable laws, rules and regulations and all Company policies and procedures. * Work with safety director to ensure all steps are taken to maintain safe worksites and follow all safety process in place by Shawnlee and customers * Participates as an active member of the Safety team and ensures that framing operations are consistent with Company and OSHA policies, practices and procedures. * Attend Quarterly loss review meetings with insurance agents and consultants. * Prepares various reports as required. * Performs other duties as required.
