Neenah, Inc Product Development Engineer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Mativ (formerly known as Neenah) is growing and actively seeking a Product Development Engineer to support our Pittsfield, Massachusetts Filtration team. The incumbent reports to the Director of Research + Development/New Business. In support of strategic business goals, the incumbent is responsible for providing a high level of scientific research in the areas of membrane backing development, fiberglass/carbon fibers composite product/process development initiatives. In addition, this role will support activities associated with outside converting trials. Further, the incumbent will support and explore other product categories, as needed such as battery separator, lightweight scrim for aerospace and high-performance media for evaporative cooling/dehumidification applications. Other activities include laboratory instrument calibration and maintenance, raw material testing, customer technical support, and ISO standards compliance for the facility. The ideal candidate has the attitude, initiative, and excellent communication skills to support Mativ's collaborative, high-achievement culture. QUALIFICATIONS Required: B.S. in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Chemical engineering & Paper Science /Engineering, Membrane Technology or other related field(s) preferred. 5+ years experience in product development in nonwovens or pulp and paper Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a laboratory, maintaining and operating equipment, and maintaining records and reports of product development activities. Research background and manufacturing experience a plus. Solution-focused and flexible to adapt to the needs of the business Intellectually curious, proactive and highly adaptable self-starter. Comfortable working to sometimes short deadlines and often with changing and competing priorities. Desired: Advanced degree in related discipline. Successful product/process development experience in nonwovens and/or related chemical process technology, gained through education or practical experience. Comprehensive knowledge of polymer science in the areas of structure/property relationship, rheology, thermal & electrical properties of polymers Skill in computer applications, excel, statistical analysis, Oracle, SharePoint etc. Knowledge in lean manufacturing & six sigma methodology
