Berkshire Transit Management, Inc Paratransit Bus Operator in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Details can be discussed at time of interview.*** Paratransit Bus Operators transport paratransit service clients in a scheduled order to/from local or distant destinations within Berkshire County. They act as \"front-line\" customer service representatives of the Company. They use good judgment, interpersonal communication skills, and workplace knowledge to assist customers with information, assure passenger safety, and operate their vehicle according to all traffic laws and Company policy. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations. Essential Functions Provide transportation in accordance with Massachusetts law, ADA policy, Company policy, and the principles of safe vehicle operation. Act as \"front-line\" customer service representatives of the Company. Work efficiently and constructively in a professional manner with other employees. Demonstrate high-quality transportation care. Complete accurate, legible, and factual written reports. Adhere to all company safety practices and other policy related to employment. Non-Essential Functions Attend regular trainings as scheduled by the department supervisor and with the requirements of 5310 MAP driver qualification standards. Complete other duties as assigned by supervisors. Applicants must: Possess and maintain a valid Class D driver\'s license. Have reliable transportation both to and from work. Have knowledge of, and adhere to, all traffic rules and regulations. Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Pass a pre-employment DOT physical. Pass a pre-employment background check. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment, common sense, and workplace trainings. Possess the physical skills applicable to the safe and efficient operation of a variety of passenger-carrying paratransit vans. Demonstrate working knowledge of basic math, map reading, and time telling. Demonstrate effective verbal communication when interacting with passengers and other employees. Be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management Inc.\'s insurance policy for duration of employment. Licensing This position requires, at minimum, a Class D Driver\'s License in good standing. Qualified applicants must be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management Inc.\'s insurance policy for duration of employment. Medical Requirements This position must meet the medical qualifications for passenger transport and are required to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card as a condition of future and continued employment. This medical exam is provided by a physician registered with the USDOT (Department of Transportation) at no cost to the applicant, after an offer for employment has been offered and accepted. The Company does not accept Medical Cards obtained while employed elsewhere. Therefore, all newly hired employees in this position must pass a DOT physical as part of the employment process requirements. Union Status This job position is unionized; some employment terms and conditions are subject to a negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Company and the Union. Hours of Work, Scheduling and Rate of Pay Applicants must be available to work a variety of shifts including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Specific work days, specific days off, and specific work hours may be affected by union seniority. This position qualifies as FSLA non-exempt, hourly, employment. 40 hours a week,potential overtime Pay rates are defined by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. New hires who successfully complete training and transition to regular employment as a Van Operator will earn a base wage defined by the collective bargaining agreement.
