The Environmental Risk Officer is responsible for supporting all commercial lending. They will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bank. The applicant must be well versed in the principles of environmental risk oversight in the context of lending. The Environmental Risk Officer will be responsible to coordinate bank wide training, and to review/revise policy and procedures as needed and to ensure that the vendors follow our Master Service Agreement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Review environmental due diligence reports and all environmental assignments and make sure all aspect of the bank’s Master Service Agreement are met.

  • Promptly answer daily questions from internal employees and external vendors relating to environmental reports in process, completed reports and review, or environmental policy and procedures.

  • Ensure continued compliance of policy and program with financial regulatory and bank requirements.

  • Provide consultation and subject matter expertise to the Commercial and Credit functions when an environmental issue has been identified and act as advisor on how to remediate.

  • Monitor work in progress via Internet based tracking system (RIMS).

  • Conduct staff training as needed and remain current with financial and environmental regulations as they apply to the lending process.

  • Responsible for the bidding and engaging due diligence services as requested, reviewing the due diligence reports upon receipt from the external environmental vendors and reporting the results to internal line.

  • Conduct annual review of approved environmental lists and vendor scorecard ratings.

  • Review new vendor applications and sample reports, and to provide recommendation to Vice President-Senior Appraisal Manager to add firms to the approved list or delete unqualified firms from the list.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

  • Ensures compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies/practices/procedures necessary to reduce risk and uphold ethical standards related to and required by one’s duties.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering, preferably in environmental science/engineering such as chemistry, geology, civil or chemical engineering,

  • Licensed Site Professional, Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, Licensed Environmental Professional with 5 years banking experience preferred.


  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental due diligence and site assessment experience and preferably 3 years of banking experience .

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, and strong written and verbal communication skills and intimate familiarity with environmental site remediation projects, regulatory closure process, estimating corrective cost, SBA SOP, environmental insurance, regulatory requirements , UST Cleanup Fund, vapor intrusion. Brownfield lending and ASTM E1527,1528,etc.
