TheSustaining Hardware Engineerwill focus on continued engineering with post-release design sustenance and support of current and future product development, especially in the form of design improvements.

SUMMARY:

As a member of our hardware team, theSustaining Hardware Engineerwill support the design, development, and manufacturing of UEI’s full product line. Will focus on continued engineering of post-release design support and new product introduction. This role supports both current and new product development and design improvements. A strong electrical engineering background with a focus on hands-on problem solving is critical. Will not only update hardware but also recompile FPGA code, firmware, etc., and debug potential issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sustainment of released products.

  • Interface with Applications Engineers and sales support.

  • Execute and assist team with debug and root cause analysis.

  • End-of-Life (EOL) planning of major components in existing products.

  • Work to identify alternate components for existing products.

  • Work with partners on qualifying new component sources.

  • Develop hardware improvements and solutions encountered in released products.

  • Work with operations in support of new design in production process.

  • Document test and design changes.

  • Create change orders and documentation.

  • Test and re-test parts to ensure proper operation and functionality.

  • Identify and isolate defects.

  • Provide test and debug assistance to senior hardware designers.

  • Provide PCB layout support to hardware engineering with ORCAD Layout and PCB Editor.

  • Provide BOMs and ECOs for hardware production.

  • Design test and calibration equipment.

  • Support Applications Engineering team in providing programming and debug efforts for our customers, as may be required.

  • Support the product line from initial mass production through its end of life.

  • Follow up on RMA trends and drive corrective action back through manufacturing as necessary.

  • Report on Quality/RMA to other departments.

  • Work with the Hardware team through EVT, DVT, and production to help ensure a high-quality product.

  • Work with Manufacturing Process and Test team on the data that is collected from tests.

  • Work on continuous improvement on yields and process/test stability.

  • Use ERP tool to evaluate work in process and establish yield metrics.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 5+ years’ electrical engineering experience in a design, manufacturing or sustaining role.

  • Familiarity with a wide range of hardware devices.

  • Experience with electrical test equipment, soldering, electronic debugging.

  • Experience with component and system level troubleshooting.

  • Strong understanding of embedded software development.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

  • Strong multitasking skills.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience with OrCAD Capture and Allegro/PCB Editor preferred.

  • QMS experience and product documentation practices preferred.
