BL Companies Inc Project Engineer - Electric Utility Distribution in Norwood, Massachusetts
Job Descriptions:
PROJECT ENGINEER – Electric Utility Distribution: Individual with 3 to 5 years’ experience in utility design. Knowledge of CAD and excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Responsibilities Include:
Underground Line Design Secondary Network
Gather all pertinent drawings and data
Enter vaults and manholes to obtain field data/pictures with CLIENT assistance
Identify long lead material
Specify appropriate construction units for the design
Perform electrical and cable pulling calculations
Coordinate project with other stakeholders and support groups
Prepare construction drawings utilizing AutoCAD
Prepare municipal permit sketches and applications
Provide construction support by participating in pre-bid meetings, answering field questions, and responding to any issues during construction
Interpret red-line documents and notate as-built changes on record drawings for drafting updates
Overhead Line Design
Gather all pertinent drawings and data
Obtain field data and pictures
Request survey from CLIENT Survey Department
Identify long lead material
Utilize AutoCAD to layout line and obtain measurements
Request field staking or perform staking for small projects
Coordinate project with other CLIENT stakeholders and support groups
Specify appropriate construction units for the design for construction order preparation
Perform electrical, clearance, and strength calculations
Coordinate projects with communication cable attachments and complete joint pole use requests
Prepare DOT and municipal permit sketches and applications
Provide construction support by participating in pre-bid meetings, answering field questions, and responding to any issues during construction
Interpret red-line documents and notate as-built changes on record drawings for drafting updates
Required Experience:
Minimum of 3 years' experience designing electric utility power distribution (15 kV and below) overhead and underground lines
Minimum of 3 years’ experience designing distribution substations
Must possess strong interpersonal, communications and technical skills
BSEE is required
EIT preferred
