WATTS Head of Engineering, Watts Digital in North Andover, Massachusetts

Watts is leading the digitalization of the water management space, developing smart & connected products and scaling the adoption of digital solutions that deliver lasting value to customers. The newly formed Watts Digital team spearheads the development of cutting-edge customer-facing solutions within Watts in coordination with business units, focusing on delivering actionable and trusted insights to customers through intuitive solutions that continuously evolve to meet ever-changing user needs.
Summary:
As a Head of Engineering, you will work with leadership teams across Watts to define our technology architecture vision and roadmap, deliver the suite of customer-facing applications, build a high-performing engineering culture and team, and manage alignment across Watts’ enterprise stakeholders and external partners. You will lead multiple teams of software engineers as well as R&D efforts to evolve the IoT architecture at Watts (sensing platform, on premise communications).
Technical Strategy, Vision and Architecture
Defining and evolving the Northstar architecture for customer-facing solutions across Watts, across the stack
Leading strategic technological roadmaps and initiatives that align Watts Digital, BUs, and other organizational units
Evangelizing technical vision and strategy both internally and externally
Communicating technology decisions and outcomes to key stakeholders (e.g., sponsors, ecosystem partners, product teams)
Advising the team on selection of modern technologies including languages, open-source and third-party tools to increase efficiency and improve technology and product offerings
Planning and allocating resources appropriately between innovation and mature solutions
Building and managing external partnerships with software development vendors, integration partners, etc.
Execution, Product Delivery and Results
Collaborating with the Watts Digital Product teams and enterprise BUs to define product and technology roadmaps and to deliver new products and features
Continuously rebalance product, service, technical features, which maximize value and minimize effort to focus on the highest returning initiatives for business and customer
Improving the development process, with a focus on automating regular high-quality releases
Defining, tracking, and delivering key productivity metrics and continually work towards improving team efficiency and engineering output
Championing a culture of learning, measurement, accountability, and quality
BUs, Operations, IT, Information Security and Infrastructure
Partnering with hardware BUs to deliver software-based solutions in support of BU objectives and roadmaps
Partnering with IT and operations in support of enterprise IT strategy
Supporting the organization with the internal productivity and collaboration tools across physical offices and remote environments
Continuing to evolve security practices and controls to meet the needs of protecting customer data and systems
Maintaining and optimizing the budget of infrastructure and software tools
Recruiting and Building a High Performing Engineering Organization
Working with the recruiting team to build a pipeline of diverse engineers to support the growth of the engineering organization
Evolving how Watts Digital organizes engineering and defining career paths
Creating rotational opportunities to distribute skills across Watts and develop the next set of leaders from within
Elevating the engineering brand through published work and speaking at events
You Have:
Startup and enterprise SaaS engineering senior leadership experience driving business results
10+ years architecting software solutions and leading product development teams
Managed a portfolio of mature and at scale digital products and platforms
Defined and launched at least 2 products from inception, preferably in the B2B segment
Experience designing, building and scaling IOT and/or data analytics platforms
Designing and developing microservice-based architectures and data engineering pipelines
Designing data analytics use cases and familiarity with time-series databases, PowerBI, SQL, python, and open-source data and analytics tools
Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, and Azure Cloud Infrastructure
Software engineering practices (e.g. Agile software development, test driven development, unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, etc.)
Deep understanding with Data Engineering & Advanced Analytics
Familiarity with Hardware and Network engineering
Ability to stand up a remote organization, hire & coach engineering talent
Experience dealing with challenging priorities in a fast-paced environment
Shown experience engaging and influencing senior executives and managing cross-organizational stakeholders
Experience establishing and managing external vendor relationships
An entrepreneurial spirit that is flexible, experimental, and resourceful
