What You'll Contribute

In this Senior Director, Marketing position in our Digital Center of Excellence capability, you are responsible and accountable for driving portfolio growth through paid and owned media for Sallie Mae’s core products. You are a leader in the organization and will create a vision, define the overall digital strategy and roadmap for acquisition, partner with key stakeholders across the organization (Analytics, Creative, Finance, Operations, and Risk) and lead a team of professionals to bring these strategies to life.

This position serves as a subject matter expert in digital marketing, and you will play a key role in developing innovative recommendations designed to acquire new customers and drive meaningful engagement. You will partner with digital agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver best-in-class marketing across all digital channels.

This is a highly visible role, which offers significant opportunity for innovation, creativity, and leadership. You must be a data-driven and strategic thought leader, a motivated self-starter, an effective communicator, and have excellent relationship-building skills, with a passion for leveraging marketing technologies and analytics to help shape a cohesive digital marketing strategy that meets business goals.

What You'll Do

Digital Marketing Strategy

  • Develops audience and segments strategies designed to drive conversion and engagement through paid media and owned .com properties.

  • Drives innovation and expansion within digital marketing.

  • Translates strategic initiatives into marketing plans.

  • Optimizes digital marketing channel mix and how it impacts overall profitability and portfolio growth.

  • Leads partnership with digital agency.

Performance and Investment Management

  • Manages paid media investment and drives optimization of marketing channel mix and impacts to overall profitability and portfolio growth.

  • Translates analysis and performance data into business decisions.

  • Partners with analytics teams to identify trends and data, and activates learnings to positively impact business performance.

Risk Management

  • Acts as first line of defense for accuracy of marketing campaigns and collateral

  • Ensures team is maintaining all required and relevant documentation as it relates to the compliance of marketing activities.

  • Develops policy and procedure documentation, as needed.

Personnel Management

  • Manages, recruits, teaches, and trains professional staff with sufficient knowledge, skills, and experience, to meet the needs of department.

  • Monitors performance of staff and provide feedback on a regular basis.

  • Provides cross-training opportunities for team members to broaden scope skillset.

What You Have

Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing/Business Administration or other related field.

  • 10+ years of direct to consumer digital marketing experience with proven business performance.

  • Demonstrated experience in leveraging advanced marketing technologies to drive increased engagement and growth to meet business goals.

  • Leadership of digital agency/partner relationships spanning various digital marketing strategies and tactics across paid and owned media efforts.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a significant marketing budget that spans across multiple marketing channels.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and successfully lead a team in an ambiguous environment.

  • Strategic thought leadership with the ability to influence peers, leaders, and business partners.

  • Proven track record of leveraging data and analytics to influence decisions and drive growth.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others without direct authority or reporting structure.

  • Proficiency in developing and presenting strategic plans and results to management teams.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in effective verbal/written communications throughout positions at all levels within the organization.

  • Proficient user of all Microsoft applications such as PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

  • Cross-channel attribution experience

  • Experience in heavily regulated industry (FiServ/Pharma/etc).
