System One SR. LAB TESTER in New Bedford, Massachusetts
System One is seeking a Sr Lab Tester to support our client's facility in New Bedford, MA for a 6 month contract. The successful candidate will have experience in receiving, preparing and performing acid sample analysis. Perform corrosion tests on samples. Prepare and perform limited microscopic examination on samples. Rate samples by comparing results to established standards. Calculate and record results on test worksheet. Discuss findings with Metallurgist's and operating personnel. Perform physical tests and all other routine and non-routine tests. Verify test results obtained against requirements and disposition material.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive, prepare and perform acid analysis for the production lines per turn/per line. Notify appropriate production facility supervisor of results obtained. Record results in log book and maintain appropriate files. Perform daily maintenance to machines to maintain accuracy and reliability of equipment.
Receive samples from production for metallographic examination. Prepare samples by cutting to proper size and mount in clamps or bakelite.
Polish surface of sample by using a variety of grinding wheels and abrasives to product a clean, smooth surface. Etch samples by chemical and electrical processes to aid in identification of elements and in rating according to comparison charts various conditions such as grain size, type of inclusion, presence of carbides, and other constituents.
Rate samples by comparing observed characteristics to standard references. Suggest factors probably related to observed conditions and discuss findings with metallurgists and supervisor.
C heck test results from written and oral instructions and release material or recommend that material be retested, reworked, or rejected.
Prepare samples and perform corrosion tests as well as production pickling acid checks and other tests by following standard procedures and report findings to operating personnel.
E valuate, record, or report corrosion and other test results on the basis of corrosion or other physical conditions usually inspected or measured by instruments. Inform supervision about status of corrosion tests.
Perform physical, heat treating, and gloss & surface roughness tests. Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies and notify supervisor when additional supplies are needed. Unload test samples and panels. File lab copies of test reports.
