Town of Needham Heavy Motor Equipment Operator - Water in Needham, Massachusetts

The full-time Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (HMEO) position on the Sewer team of the Water, Sewer, and Drains division performs a variety of skilled duties which include the operation and maintenance of motorized equipment, handwork relating to water, sewer and drain projects, snow and ice treatment and removal, and preparing routine records and reports. Friday; 7:00am ? 3:30pm (40 hours/week) More about the Division The Water, Sewer, and Drains Division operates and maintains the Town?s water system, including supply, storage, treatment, distribution, and metering; maintains the storm drain system, including compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES); and maintains and cleans the sewer collection system. Duties and Responsibilities Operation of light and heavy motorized and hydraulic equipment such as heavy trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, tractors, jet trucks, vactor trucks, CCTV truck. Perform routine maintenance and repair to equipment, perform inspections on departmental vehicles and equipment, maintain equipment logs and reports, and oversee and/or support various operations. Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining sewer pipes, water mains, storm drainpipes, services, and hydrants; cleaning storm sewers, catch basins, culverts, and associated piping and structures. Act as a lead person on a work crew; prepare routine records, logs, and reports; assist outside contractors engaged in construction and repair activities; assist other Town departments with repairs or other projects as required. Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and operable condition and adhere to applicable safety and health rules and regulations, and endeavor to continuously improve services provided to taxpayers. Mandatory participation in the Snow & Ice Program, including treating roads with salt/chemical spreaders, plowing, snow hauling, and maintaining all equipment used. Requirements Valid MA Driver?s License and CDL Class A or B. Hoisting Engineer?s License Class 1B and 2A. One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience. General knowledge equivalent to the completion of high school and specialized courses. Ability to work with a team or independently. Demonstrated communication and customer service skills with members of the public. Preferred Qualifications or the Ability to Obtain the Following: CDL Tanker Endorsement, must have the ability to obtain within one year of employment. Hoisting License Class 4E, must have the ability to obtain within one year of employment. OSHA 10 Hour Training, must have the ability to obtain within one year of employment. Supplemental Information Pre-Hire Process: For positions requiring a Commercial Driver?s License (CDL), the Town of Needham conducts pre-employment drug testing and post-employment random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with U.S. DOT Regulations.
