Waters Senior Chemical Engineer in Milford, Massachusetts
Waters Corporation is currently searching for a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our Instrument Product Group. The Instrument Product Group is responsible for the development and support of Waters core LC Instrument Technologies such as Pump, AutoSampler, Detection, and Column Management Platforms.
In this role, the individual will put strong technical engineering knowledge and experience into practice while developing analytical instrumentation in a team orientated and collaborative environment.
As a member of the Waters Instrument Development Group, the Senior Chemical Engineer will
participate in the development and design verification of chromatographic hardware, software, and
- Design and perform benchmarking and evaluation experiments of chromatographic
equipment including IVD medical devices.
Lead investigations to identify contaminants, the source, and impact on chromatographic performance.
Act as consultant to Engineering design teams to explain chemical interactions between hardware and solvents. Work with teams to develop solutions to complex material compatibility challenges.
Develop chromatographic processes used to verify and troubleshoot instrument performance.
Analyze data and draw conclusions from experiments.
Summarize and present results of investigations and design verifications to hardware, software, and
chemistry development teams.
- Interpret and explain chromatographic results and provide insight to hardware and software design
teams to help solve difficult design problems.
Qualify, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Generate detailed written reports that include analysis, methodology and interpretation of results.

Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering – Required
Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering - Desired
Minimum of 5 Years of Experience in Related Field with B.S. ChemE
Minimum of 3 Years of Experience in Related Field with M.S. ChemE
Good theoretical and practical understanding of chromatography including software, hardware, and
In depth understanding of material science to guide material selection and failure analysis activities.
Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and software design processes and their effect on instrument
performance for IVD applications. Exposure to mechanical design and software development
projects highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical skills especially in terms of identifying new system performance issues and the
ability to formulate theories and subsequent experiments to determine the cause and offer possible
solutions to these issues.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience with LC/MS is highly desirable.
Experience with diagnosing issues and problems with equipment designed for IVD medical device
applications is desired.
- Experience with analytical analysis techniques such as SEM/EDS, Raman Spectrophotometry and
FTIR is desired.
- Experience with Risk Management ISO 14971, IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 is desired.
