The Scientific Operations group provides globally recognized scientific leadership and knowledge to collaboratively develop differentiated and innovative solutions with our customers, enabling them to solve critical analytical challenges and advance scientific understanding. The area of focus is on biopharmaceutical sciences, specifically on method development for real time characterization of mAbs and cell and gene therapy products.
A Principal Scientist in the Scientific Operations group is responsible for providing expert scientific contributions which impact product development and business outcomes, and positions Waters as a global leader in the analytical instrument market. This will include providing leadership to a team(s) of scientists in the provision of new science, technologies, and practices. The dynamic role of Principal Scientist includes building collaborations across the company and with customers to apply a deep understanding of market needs in the generation of scientific content including publications, patents, and marketing material to support business development. This is a scientific position with an excellent opportunity to grow both professionally and scientifically. The Principal Scientist activities will have a positive impact on the Waters product portfolio, and the overall success of the business.
Therapeutic protein characterization using RPLC-MS, SEC, IEX, affinity purifications and automated liquid sample handling.
Develop fast LC and LC-MS methods for improved throughput.
LC-MS analysis and data interpretation of therapeutic proteins, experiences with Cell and Gene Therapy products are highly desired.
Collaborate with internal and external teams to evaluate new technologies and drive innovation
Ability to resolve complex problems exercising independent judgment.
Review and present work for internal colleagues, external customers, and collaborators
Contribute to Product Development team, Marketing team and Strategic team as appropriate
Coordinate with Waters Innovation Center at University Delaware for various bioprocessing related projects. Aid and provide quality expertise on experimental design and method optimization. Travel to the Delaware facility is needed.
PhD degree in Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with a 3+ years of relevant academic or pharmaceutical industry experience or a Masters/Bachelor’s degree with an 8 + years of relevant industry experience
Working knowledge of mass spectrometry and application in biotherapeutic product characterization and manufacturing is highly desirable.
Experience with variety of analytical instrumentations such as Liquid Chromatography, CE, cIEF, mass spectrometry and other spectroscopy tools.
Ability to interpretate complex data using variety of informatics solutions.
Ability to work with limited supervision and function within a collaborative environment
Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, including participation in cross functional project and innovation teams.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of upstream processing fundamentals
Good working knowledge and experience with analytical method qualification and validation.
