Waters Data Platform / Data Architect in Milford, Massachusetts

The Waters Corp. Principal Data Architect will be accountable and holistically leads the designs and builds of relational databases for data storage or processing. Analyzes system requirements and defines system architecture that will meet business needs, including infrastructure, capacity planning, storage requirements, networking protocols, and data archiving and recovery. Conversely, they must be able to understand, monetize and operationalize new technologies to new and evolving business and operating models. Ensures that architecture project roll-out meet security standards and be effectively integrated with current applications. The candidate will work on advanced complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Implements and enforces standards and procedures to ensure data is managed consistently and properly integrated within the warehouse. Works autonomously and provides a leadership role for the workgroup through knowledge in the area of specialization.

  • Primary responsibilities include leading the design, deployment, configuration, migration, and maintenance of scalable infrastructure; with an intense focus on resiliency, and flexibility

  • Development and implementation of enterprise technology standards and personas to be used globally

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional environment with network engineers, system engineers, software engineers across business units to define, document, and disseminate the strategy and progress against delivery goals

  • Lead the development of an implementation plan for a cloud architecture based on business strategy and requirements

  • Understand the business's economic and financial levers that are susceptible to digital transformation, to effectively support and guide technology investment decisions

  • Lead the analysis of business and operating models, market trends and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise's business strategy, direction and architecture

  • Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting and integrating new features

  • Foundation in systems development. Understand the system development life cycle; software project management approaches; and requirements, design, and test techniques.

  • Depth in data modeling and database design, effectively sound across all phases of data modeling, from conceptualization to database optimization. In his/her experience this skill extends to development and perhaps database administration.

  • Breadth in established and emerging data technologies, in addition to depth in established data management and reporting technologies.

  • Experienced or conversant in emerging tools like predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data.

  • Ability to conceive and portray the big data picture: Initiates, evaluates, and influences projects he or she does so from the perspective of the entire organization.

  • The ideal candidate maps the systems and interfaces used to manage data, sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives desired future state, and conceives projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals.

  • Deep understanding of the Cloud and Big Data markets. Experience with RDBMS.

  • Experience with Data Replication and Cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud) is considered a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics/Statistics or another related major field of study and 5 or more years’ experience in a data analytics decision support role
