The Red Hat Office of the CTO is looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to gain practical experience with open source and Red Hat products during a summer internship to join us as a Software Engineer Intern in the Emerging Technologies team. Primary job responsibilities

As a technical intern in this role, you will:

  • Work with others to determine a novel, effective, and repeatable combination of different technologies to solve a real-world problem, these technologies may include cloud platforms (Kubernetes), stream processing platforms (Kafka), AI/ML tools, graphics processing tools, and many others

  • Develop a functioning proof of concept (POC) implementation of the solution system, writing code in various languages to close any functional gaps in the selected tools

  • Ensure that deployment of the POC system can be done in a repeatable and automated way

  • Write one or more blog articles about the evolution of the POC system

  • Give one or more talks about the POC system to audiences within and outside of Red Hat

Required skills

  • Ability to work full-time May-August

  • Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field; if you have graduated, be no more than 6 months past your graduation date

  • Knowledge of the UNIX or Linux operating system in any distribution

  • Coding experience in languages like C or Python

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

The following are considered a plus:

  • Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub

  • Knowledge of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Kubernetes, and Bash scripting
