National Grid Project Management and Controls Project Manager in Massachusetts

*About the Position*:

The Project Management and Controls Project Manager has extensive knowledge in electrical distribution planning and application of grid technologies to improve grid performance today and ready the grid for the future challenges represented by distributed generation and electrification. It is also preferred that this project manager have knowledge of operational technologies and grid device integration such as outage and distribution management systems. This project manager will spend significant time with client teams establishing project objectives and then managing across a team of engineers, analysts, and third-party consultants to achieve those objectives.

Manages and oversees project controls for technology, engineering and construction projects. Responsible for project planning and scheduling, cost estimating and monitoring, and quality review. Manages project controls personnel. Establishes program and control policies to mitigate risk. Provides guidance and consultation for project managers. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

  • Direct and monitor all activities for highly complex programs from initiation to delivery inclusive of strategy and planning, vendor systems procurement, architecture and design, systems development and integration, vendor management, testing, and acceptance

  • Lead Program Management Office for client projects, including developing, managing, and enhancing program governance model and procedures for performance management and program change, issues and risk management

  • Act as a liaison between departments and stakeholders within the client organization

  • Provide consistent and comprehensive status reporting, executive-level dashboards, project updates, ongoing cost analyses, significant issue management/resolution and communication at project and executive levels

  • Develop and manage an integrated program-level schedule, encompassing a large number of workstreams and projects that cut across multiple departments and stakeholders within the utility

  • Oversee and manage performance, including budget, schedule, forecasting, resources, and reporting

  • Lead structured risk and issues management planning, tracking, control and escalation/reporting; analyze issues and risks in terms of impact to schedule and budget and identify and execute upon mitigation plans

  • Manage escalation of risks and issues; hold program sponsor(s) and individual team members accountable to effectively manage issues based on priority and impact

  • Identify and document all deliverables and activities required to meet the program scope and objectives

  • Manage service delivery of against agreed schedule, quality, scope, budget and defined deliverables

  • Lead quality management for the program, driving to excellent client satisfaction

  • Mentor and coach team members

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

  • BS or BA required, MBA a strong plus

  • 7 years of program management experience in a complex systems integration environment

  • Knowledge and experience with project management practices and techniques at the level of PMI Certification. Candidates with PMP certification are preferred

  • 5 years of experience working with electric utilities, preference working on grid modernization projects

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage project delivery in a large, multi-team environment for complex, multi-disciplinary programs

  • A working understanding of financial reporting within a utility, including capital budgeting and regulatory reporting

  • Knowledge of project management tools (i.e. Microsoft Project), methodologies and practices to effectively deliver within cost, schedule and quality baselines

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong executive presence and proven ability to consult at all levels in a utility organization

  • Understanding of how to build and leverage strong business relationships

  • Proven ability to build, manage and foster a team-oriented environment

  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment

  • Excellent leadership and management skills

  • Must have a passion for customer satisfaction and the ability to manage customer’s needs and expectations

  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer relation/communication skills

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
