RedHat Associate Lab Engineer Internship in Massachusetts
The Red Hat Products and Technologies (PnT) ExD Infrastructure Platform team is looking for an Associate Lab Engineer Intern to join us. In this role, you will get an opportunity to work with new hardware as part of an established team as we evolve a development environment to integrate new testing methodologies. Your main areas of responsibility will include receiving hardware from the shipping dock, checking it against established receiving procedures, upgrading firmware in a Red Hat engineering facility under the guidance of experienced administrators, and performing asset management data entries within the inventory system. As an Associate Lab Engineer Intern, you should ideally have good system administration skills, but this is an entry level opportunity for someone eager to develop their career as a Lab Engineer. This role is ideal for anyone interested in Linux or open source, who has previously performed operating system installs, a CPU or memory upgrade, and flashed their own firmware.
Primary job responsibilities
Receive, check in, and rack and stack servers
Troubleshoot technical issues
Respond to engineering requests through the ticketing system
Maintain and administer hardware, including configuration changes and firmware upgrades
Perform other administrative work related to labs
Decommission and eWaste hardware
Prior experience in computer operations, system administration, or a closely related area
Basic knowledge of or experience with Linux or UNIX
Ability to lift, carry, squat, and bend; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment
Motivated to advance in the information technology profession, with excellent troubleshooting skills
Good work ethic and an ability to learn and quickly grasp technical concepts
Good interpersonal communication skills and capable of explaining simple procedures verbally and in writing
Excellent verbal and written customer service skills
Detail oriented and thorough when following procedures, as well as able to follow verbal and written instructions
Degree or certificate in computer science or a technology-related field is a plus
