DuPont’s Electronics & Industrial (E&I) Emerging Technology (ET) group has an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated Polymer Chemist at its R&D site in Marlborough, Massachusetts .

The Emerging Technology project portfolio and pipeline seeks to address technical challenges across E&I’s various businesses as well as next generation markets and areas for strategic growth. This role is best suited for individuals with expertise in areas of organic chemistry, polymer science, synthesis, and formulation. This position will be on a team comprised of scientists, engineers, and technologists.

This candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to work closely with sponsoring ET global project teams to deliver against project goals and timelines aligned to new business opportunities. Technical direction will come from experienced project leaders within ET and sponsoring business units, depending on the project. This role will require the candidate to be both willing and able to perform necessary hands-on formulation, synthesis, characterization, sample prep, etc. The candidate will be required to maintain strong collaborative relationships with their team members at other E&I locations.

Depending on the scope of the technical deliverables, the responsibility to deliver solutions may lie solely on the candidate, in collaboration with other ET team members, or with business level R&D support. The highest levels of ethical conduct, quality science, and adherence to our culture of safety is a prerequisite for success in this role.

Your Key Responsibilities:

· Under the direction of a PI, conducting synthetic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.

· Dependently conducting synthetic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.

· Independently conducting synthetic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.

· Execute hands-on experimentation to test hypotheses, data analysis, enable data-based decision making. Project dependent; can include synthesis, polymerization, formulation, analytical, materials analysis, test methods development, applications level testing.

· Clearly and concisely communicate research to team members of varying technical backgrounds.

· Demonstrate ability to work cross functionally with personnel at multiple levels.

· Maintain appropriate focus on personal and process safety, product integrity, and environmental stewardship Polymer synthesis and subsequent characterization.

· Provide input to technical and project leaders to help define project paths.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree or higher in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry is required.

· 3+ years of related experience preferred.

· Knowledge of organic chemistry, general polymerization processes and basic functional group transformations.

. Knowledge of methods for polymer synthesis and characterization.

· High level of creativity and productivity.

· Excellent knowledge of and hands on experience with NMR, GPC, FT-IR as well as interpretation of the respective data.

· Commitment to laboratory safety, including adherence to best practices, PPE usage, proper disposal of chemicals, and managing chemical inventories.

· Experienced in maintaining a laboratory in good working condition as well as ordering supplies and chemicals.

· The aptitude to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and to communicate research directions within the R&D community.

· Initiative, aptitude, and willingness to learn a new fields of research.
