MANAGER of INTERMODAL CARRIER MANAGEMENT – MARLBOROUGH, MA
Job Summary:
Manager of Intermodal Carrier Management leads and is accountable for strategic development of 15 North America intermodal service providers and 5 major U.S. railroads. In addition, this role will have responsibility for managing components of the TJX truckload strategy. They are responsible for assessing and driving cost-effective and productive carrier initiatives that impact the supply chain, ensuring seamless execution in supporting and enabling TJX business goals.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Identifies and drives opportunities to improve TJX Logistics Provider strategy, inclusive of Logistics Provider performance, market trends, and demand shifts in the marketplace
Builds and maintains relationship with Logistics Providers and serves as point of contact
Meets regularly with Logistics Providers partners to discuss forecasts and capacity information to improve planning
Responsible for Intermodal contractual agreements. Negotiates contract amendments to support new ventures and/or adjustments to existing services.
Analyzes domestic Logistics Providers performance; develops and monitors performance improvement plans. Enforces service requirements for compliance to contractual obligations
Researches industry performance, standards, and benchmarks to analyze Logistics Providers performance
Conducts formal Logistics Providers business reviews, and makes relationship decisions as appropriate
Engages with relevant stakeholders, as needed, for the engagement or release of Logistics Providers
Serves as a point of escalation for operational chronic or repetitive issues with carriers
Defines and executes negotiation strategy and contracts to create a sustainable partnership with Logistics Providers
Defines schedule for, leads, and executes freight sourcing events on a defined cadence
Procures capacity for special projects, approves spot rates
Develops and negotiates contract language and terms with service providers in partnership with AVP, Domestic Carrier Management and TJX Legal
Minimal Requirements / Education Required
Bachelor’s Degree, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business, Finance, Legal
10+ years of experience in a logistics leadership/management operational role or
5+ years of experience in a logistics leadership/management operational role with another 5+ years of other relevant management experience
Transportation industry and regulation understanding
Transportation contract knowledge and legal acumen
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated relationship management and accountability
Exceptional negotiating skills
