Sumitomo Pharma America Holdings, Inc. Director Gross to Net Revenue Accounting & Analytics in Marlborough, Massachusetts

Summary of Responsibilities:

Director, Gross to Net Revenue Accounting and Analytics, is a key member of the Sumitomo Pharma America Accounting team responsible for the compilation and review of all aspects of gross to net product revenue process for both revenue recognition and components of gross to net forecasting. This role will be responsible to calculate and review the revenue provisions for completeness, accuracy, and ensuring adherence to process controls. This position will also be responsible for gross to net analytics and assume a key role in the product revenue forecast for input and review. The ideal candidate must have strong technical experience to support continued automation and streamlining of GTN process. Requires strong cross functional partnerships with our Commercial forecasting team, Strategic Pricing and Contracting, Government Price Reporting team, and the Finance team.

This position reports to the Sr. Director, Revenue Accounting and Analytics.

Essential Functions:

  • Review and complete analysis on gross-to-net accounting estimates/accruals, including applying appropriate methodologies and calculations on gross to net inputs ensuring compliance with accounting standards (IFRS) and controls.

  • Monitor accrual assumptions underlying the GTN revenue accounting for monthly and quarterly revenue in coordination with Strategic Pricing and Contracting, Government Pricing, Trade and Market Access teams

  • Prepare and present GTN metrics and analytics for variance reporting and input into the forecasting process.

  • Member of pricing and rebates working teams to analyze and review pricing changes evaluating and communicating impacts to gross to net mix, provisions, and forecast assumptions.

  • Key member of GTN forecasting process providing data-driven insights and input into forecasted average selling price calculations and revenue trends in order to provide greater alignment between forecast and actual results.

  • Review of journal entries, month end accruals, reconciliations for completeness and ensuring proper documentation to support required management review control documentation.

  • Preparation of financial reporting packages as required to business, leadership, and parent company.

  • Advance GTN reporting capabilities through technology and dashboarding for more streamlined and efficient reporting.

  • Serve as a Revenue Analysis Model (Anaplan) business administrator/SME as it relates to technology used in the gross to net process, ensuring system is working as intended, conducting validations, and following the system control matrix.

  • Regular monitoring and assessment of revenue returns reserves and pipeline accrual.

  • Support audit process, participate in quarterly reviews and annual audits by internal and external auditors

  • Prepare strategic analyses, when needed, and present to Senior Leaders across the Finance and Business Partner teams, using data and business insights to influence outcomes and drive informed decisions.

  • Identify process improvements, areas where complexity could be reduced, and/or analysis and meaningful insights to enable improved business partnering and decision making.

  • Review and/or update SOPs, work instructions, Control Matrix, process documentation, as required

  • Perform other assignments, ad-hoc analysis and special projects as required.

Knowledge and Skills

Education level and/or relevant experience(s):

Bachelor’s degree / 10+ Years; MBA, PhD or other advanced degree preferred

CPA, a plus

Knowledge and skills (general and technical):

Other requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years in accounting and/or finance in private or public company, or life science finance consulting experience.

  • A minimum of 5+ years prior experience in Life Sciences industry with Gross-To-Net experience

  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables with good time management skills, balancing progress on long-term projects with the urgency of immediate operational demands.

  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and/or IFRS accounting standards related to Gross-To-Net accounting.

  • Strategic, forward-looking thinker with the ability to come in and out of details with strong analytical and finance skills.

  • Technologically advanced, experience with predictive modeling and analytical tools such as Anaplan. Advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and similar programs.

  • Knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting; Oracle and Hyperion experience a plus.

  • Innovative, resourceful, and self-motivated; able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strong business partnering skills with the ability to maneuver in a complex business environment, work collaborate for the best business decisions.
